London, United Kingdom Islington Council Full time

Passionate about tackling inequality, racism and injustice? Want to work for a council committed to creating a more equal borough? Are you a strategic thinker with the ability to work collaboratively to drive forward projects that aim to improve outcomes for disadvantaged groups? Then we have just the role for you.

We are looking for someone who shares our commitment to tackling inequality, is experienced at working at a senior level to drive change, is able to work staff, partners, members and the community to deliver projects that tackle issues for disadvantaged communities.

You will lead a team responsible for providing equality support to the organisation and will oversee delivery of our challenging inequality events programme.

You will be an effective communicator, able to build strong relationships and lead on the delivery of corporate priorities.

Islington is a diverse borough with a proud history of championing equality for all. We believe our diversity is our strength and something we should celebrate. Islington is a wonderful place, but it’s also a borough of contrasts. A thriving area at the centre of a world city, with more than enough jobs for every person of working age, and a place where our diverse community pulls together and is incredibly strong. Yet, it is also a place where the gap between the ‘haves’ and ‘have nots’ is stark, and where one in three children are growing up in poverty.

Our Islington Together 2030 plan sets out our clear vision to create and more equal borough and to create a place where everyone, whatever their background, has the opportunity to reach their potential and enjoy a good quality of life.

Whilst we have made good progress through our Challenging Inequality Programme, we understand that there is much more to do.

**Closing date**: Sunday 19th November 2023 at 23:59

**Interviews**: To be confirmed

- Manage a team that supports leaders and managers to identify areas of disproportionate and or discriminatory practice/areas of service that do not promote or empower equality, diversity of inclusion and provide support, advice and guidance on appropriate action to be taken and outcomes to be achieved.
- Provide leadership to the Equality Events Team to promote equality, diversity and inclusion through a programme of events that bring residents together, enhance knowledge and understanding of different protected characteristics and cultures, enabling and promoting community cohesion.
