The Healthcare Inequalities Improvement Team has been established to deliver the vision of exceptional quality healthcare for all, ensuring equitable access, excellent experience, and optimal outcomes.

The role of the Healthcare Inequalities Improvement Team is principally threefold; setting direction in relation to tackling healthcare inequalities across NHS England and the wider NHS; creating a positive improvement culture which champions data as a means of gaining actionable insight to drive interventions leading to improvement in health inequalities; and working with national teams and partners to ensure that we deliver the commitments to tackling health inequalities set out in the NHS Long-Term Plan.

Underpinning all our work is a strong focus on quality improvement with a real emphasis on data for improvement, strengths-based approaches and co-production with communities, patients, and service users.

The team has deep links across NHSE programmes, policy and clinical areas and strong connections with health inequality improvement priorities in the Office for Health Improvement and Disparities (OHID), local government, big business and national VCSE organisations.

**The postholder will**:

- Lead development and implementation of national NHS programmes and collaborations to tackle health inequalities, working with leaders at national, regional, ICS and provider level, and with wider partners
- Translate partnership opportunities into tangible collaborations & delivery of projects & initiatives in aid of our national healthcare inequalities improvement strategic priorities and core20PLUS5 approach
- Act as a system and thought leader on health inequalities, driving inter-agency and interdisciplinary working to deliver strategic objectives
- Monitor progress on delivery of programmes and priorities and formulate support and mechanisms to support implementation
- Provide leadership and line management support for a wider team of partnership staff
- Pro-actively build upon on strategic partnership opportunities and translate these into tangible collaborations & delivery of projects & initiatives including strategic collaboration with ALBs/non-NHS partners to maximise alignment of policy/funding opportunities across multiple organisations & channels.

Colleagues with a contractual office base are expected to spend, on average, at least 40% of their time working in-person

About the Role

We have an exciting opportunity for someone to join the Healthcare Inequalities Improvement Team as a Senior Healthcare Inequalities Improvement Adviser on a part-time basis - 0.6FTE.

As a Senior Healthcare Inequalities Improvement Adviser, the post-holder will play a pivotal role in leading and coordinating the development and delivery of the healthcare inequalities improvement programme. This will involve utilising a range of system levers, engaging internal and external stakeholders, and ensuring robust arrangements and capacity is in place for executing our commitments to tackle healthcare inequalities.

The post holder will work as part of a dynamic team in delivering an effective service, collaborating with policy makers, programme managers and staff across NHSE and external partners to develop transformational policy and interventions in the furtherance of our five priority actions and the Core20PLUS 5 approach to support Healthcare Inequalities Improvement.

The post holder will provide professional expertise in the development, management and delivery of effective strategies and management processes, leading on specific health inequalities initiatives to address directorate and NHSE priorities.

About You

You will be a visible leader, showing the skills and confidence to develop the team and engage stakeholders effectively.

You will be an innovative, resourceful and strategic thinker with the ability to analyse problems and devise pragmatic solutions, the skills to scope and lead complex, national programmes of work to tackle health inequalities through the NHS, and the confidence to provide influential views on a whole host of issues. This will include using data and evidence to shape policy and practice, deploying excellent collaboration skills. will have the skills and experience to and proactively prioritising the team’s activity.

With strong relationship, influencing and execution skills, you will communicate effectively and engage internal and external stakeholders to drive delivery and practical change across the NHS. You will be adaptable and tenacious, with the ability to think quickly, work on a range of issues related to inequalities at all levels of the NHS, and keep going in the face of challenge or scepticism
