Liverpool, United Kingdom Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine Full time

**Post-Doctoral Research Associate - Public Health/Social Science (83444)**

**Tropical Disease Biology**

**Salary: £38,205 - £40,521 per annum (FTE)**

**Part time, 17.5 hours per week**

**Fixed-term contract until September 2025 **(with potential for an extension dependent on funding)

**Based in Liverpool**

Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) is a globally recognised centre of excellence for teaching and research in tropical diseases. Shortlisted by the Times Higher Education awards for University of the Year for 2023 and having recently celebrated our 125th anniversary, there has never been a more exciting time to be part of our organisation.

We are looking to appoint a Post-Doctoral Research Associate with a background in Public Health or Social Science to join our Tropical Disease Biology team here in Liverpool on a part-time basis. This role will contribute to the crucial research on snakebite prevention currently being conducted by LSTM in Rwanda and Eswatini.

Access to safe and appropriate medical care, including antivenom is extremely limited for those populations with the highest risk of snakebite in low and middle-income countries. Prevention of snakebites is therefore crucial but there is no evidence base to inform systematic approaches to prevention. This study will identify high risk occupational groups in Rwanda and Eswatini in order to gather communities’ views and perspectives on snakebite prevention.

Key responsibilities will include:

- Liaison with colleagues in Rwanda and Eswatini and across LSTM
- Ensuring appropriate systems are used for collecting and storing clinical and epidemiological data and samples
- Assisting the research team in the preparation and input of data into spreadsheets
- Preparation and analysis of quantitative and qualitative epidemiological data ensuring the use of relevant contemporary analytical tools
- Preparing and writing information for journal publication, guidelines for rural hospital clinicians and for teaching material
- Maintaining and archiving accurate record and correspondence of all research activity
- Contributing to manuscript preparation and submissions for grant funding
- Supervising and assisting BSc, MSC and PhD students in designing and carrying out their projects and contributing to their development of theory and practice
- PhD in a relevant field
- Experience conducting qualitative and quantitative research in low and middle-income countries, preferably in Africa
- Record of publishing original research in peer reviewed journals
- The ability to utilise software to analyse clinical and epidemiological data
- Initiative and a proactive approach to problem solving
- Sensitivity to a variety of cultures
