We have an outstanding opportunity in our Tropical Disease Biology Department, for a talented and motivated Post-Doctoral Research Associate to join our dynamic team at the forefront of Pharmacology, Biochemistry, and Malaria Research.

The Pharmacology Group led by Professor Steve Ward and Professor Giancarlo Biagini has strengths in basic, applied and clinical pharmacology which includes:

- Investigations into the fundamentals of drug action and resistance
- PK/PD in vitro (animal and human) model systems, and
- Therapeutic evaluation of new therapies in model systems and patient populations including in pregnancy and children

The group carries out studies in GCLP-accredited laboratories in Liverpool and has an interest in a number of disease areas including Malaria, Tuberculosis, Neglected Tropical Diseases, AMR and emerging infectious diseases including COVID-19.

**Key responsibilities include**:

- **Development and validation pharmacological and biochemical assays**: Undertake experimental biochemical and pharmacological studies; Undertake quantitative biochemical studies; Establish resistance potential of novel antimalarials; Undertake validation of analytical assays to international standards; Support collaborative research activities within the group.
- **General laboratory activities**:Work to health and safety regulations and legal requirements; Undertake the generation of new SOPs and risk assessments; Maintenance of laboratory stock inventory; Preparation stock compounds and reagents; Purchasing of relevant chemicals, materials and reagents.
- **Support the production and dissemination of research outputs**:Preparation of primary data manuscripts for international journals; Support preparation of requests for research funding; Contribute research ideas and actively participate in the planning of research activity; Ensure all data and data analyses are correctly recorded and stored.
- Training in Analytical Pharmacology/Biochemistry/Chemistry and PK-PD modelling
- Experience in enzymology, malaria mechanism of action and mechanism of resistance studies
- Experience in validating/undertaking analytical/biological assays to international standards.
- Experience in bioanalysis and cell culture
- Biochemistry and pharmacology laboratory experience
