- Full-time, Fixed-term appointment to 29th March 2024Key Responsibilities are:

- **Experimental infections**; Lead research to understand the determinants of vector competence to a range of pathogens, evaluate and integrate measures of insect behaviour and fitness to understand overall capacity to transmit pathogens, and select for vector-pathogen pairs which can support research on insecticide resistance and immunity.
- **Development and expansion of research methods**; Design and validate methods to co-infect mosquitoes with a range of pathogens, adapt a range of research methods to manipulate mosquitoes to the constraints of arthropod containment levels, and compare approaches to assess pathogen infectivity.
- **Training and support to PhD students and project staff;** Provide oversight and training in the molecular methods to assess pathogen infection, assist project students with study design and analysis, and create training materials and protocols for safe ArCL2 and ArCL3 work.
- **Development of new projects;** Contribute to the writing of research grants/ fellowships in collaboration with the research team, synthesize data from the research literature to inform new approaches, and communicate results through research networks and publications and identify opportunities for collaboration - within and beyond LSTM.
- Masters or PhD in Vector Biology, Arbovirology or related field.
- Training in Arthropod Containment Levels 2 and 3, with an understanding of risks and mitigation in high containment (CL3) facilities.
- Experience with extraction and analysis of RNA and DNA.
- Experience in experimental infections in mosquitoes, in addition to experience with mosquito husbandry and dissections.
- Familiarization with protocols for inactivation and transmission assays for viruses.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
