Communications Intelligence is responsible for supporting the MPS with access and advice to the wide variety of digital material generated in our daily lives; use of mobile telephony, the internet, social media, digital apps and the services connected to them, from vehicles to smart watches.

The unit is well known for providing a 24/7 service to deal with life at risk, we provide a critical business function specialising in locating vulnerable people and supporting proactive policing.

In 2020 demand for the CIU increased by 50% with fast time operational support growing even faster. Day to day, the unit supports on average 14 threats to life incidents and provides the intelligence behind proactive work across Met. To meet these needs to unit continues to expand and we are recruiting to fill a number of additional posts.

As a Band E SPoC we are seeking individuals with a strong work ethic and drive to deliver practical solutions to policing challenges. No extensive experience in the use of communications data is required, but an appreciation as to the possibilities and a willingness to learn.

The role is demanding and involves confidence with both IT systems and handling data. We work with a number of bespoke IT workflow solutions; you should be willing to learn and adapt to a constantly changing environment.

The CIU is responsible for researching and providing access to new connected technologies such as data provided by ‘apps’. You will be an important part in building this part of our expanding business area.
