**MO4 - Forensic Services**

As an integral part of the Metropolitan Police Service, the Directorate of Forensic Services contributes significantly to making London safer through a wide range of technical and scientific expertise in order to investigate, detect and reduce crimes. These include crime scene management and examination, specialist imaging, evidence recovery, exhibit analysis, fingerprint comparison and digital examination.

**The Role**

You will be part of an experienced team responsible for the administrative support of forensic submissions from across the MPS. Our teams are responsible for approximately 230,000 forensic submissions per year, and deal with enquiries in respect of the progress and results of these examinations. This means our teams work in a fast paced and dynamic environment, where they are required to process a forensic submission from receipt to conclusion, ensuring that submissions are accurately processed, allocated and recorded. You will be the first point of contact for internal and external customers seeking advice on a forensic investigation and provide an effective, efficient administrative support function for the Directorate of Forensic Services.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- To work within the Directorate’s Quality Management System and actively participate in the continuous improvement of the system by engaging in audits, competence tests, reporting non-conformances etc and suggesting changes to improve the system
- Dealing with exhibits delivered via dispatch or in person. Tasks to include accepting and checking the accuracy of information and the continuity and integrity of exhibits requiring forensic analysis
- Follow the correct procedures in receiving submissions to include batch receipting of exhibits
- Maintain accurate records of exhibits received
- Ensure environmental standards are maintained in line with ISO standards
- Highlight and bring to line manager attention exhibits for potential rejection which do not conform to prescribed standards
- Interrogate and update databases to ensure exhibits are correctly authorised / approved. Appropriately store exhibits, in line with the rules of continuity and integrity, for allocation to a technical specialist. Return exhibits and forward statements to relevant Police Officer on conclusion of examinations.
- Deal with telephone queries. These may involve requests for the retrieval of case files for court purposes, submission enquiries and general casework information. Direct calls to appropriate personnel when required
- Retrieve case files / archive files on requests
- Take fingerprints from member of the public ensuring the prints are of good quality and the form is accurately completed. Efficiently and accurately process payments for fingerprinting services
- Complete administrative functions in association with tasks undertaken
- Work in partnership with Department of Forensic Services and line managers to develop and deliver change
- Comply with all Health and Safety obligations
- Manage resources in accordance with MPS policy
- Flexible working to meet operational demand

- Provide a DNA sample and fingerprints for inclusion on the staff elimination databases
