**Purpose of Job**

The Boarding Matron will support the House Team in creating a warm, homely atmosphere, maintaining a supportive environment where boarders have a sense that someone is taking care of them. Additionally, he/she will be responsible for keeping the house clean and tidy and preparing evening meals for the boarders.

**Hours of work**

In the LMS boarding model, the boarding house is open from Monday afternoon to Friday morning. Boarders are in school from 8:30 to 16:00.

During Term time:
Monday

14:00 - 19:00

Tuesday

14:00 - 19:00

Wednesday

14:00 - 19:00

Thursday

14:00 - 19:00

Friday

Out of Term time:

- 8 hours before the start of each term to get the house ready for boarders’ return at a mutually agreeable time.

Please note that this is a non-residential role.

**Salary**

£11.50 / hour

**Core Duties**:
**General**
- To ensure that there is always an adult present in the boarding house when boarders are in
- To assist in the pastoral care of boarders in the boarding house and their ability to flourish in all areas of school life
- To enforce boarding house rules, regulations and routines
- To be present in the boarding house and available for boarders at the appointed times
- To develop strong relationships within the house based on trust and respect
- To be a member of the in-house team, participating in a collegiate and collaborative culture, and liaise with other staff as needed
- To handover important information to visiting and residential staff
- To be aware of the medical and dietary needs of the boarders
- To participate in House meetings regularly
- To cook family style dinners, for boarders and duty staff

**Housekeeping**
- To maintain overall control of tidiness and cleanliness, checking all rooms for safety, state of repair and cleanliness on a weekly basis
- To report damage and defects to the maintenance team and collaborate in keeping the house tidy and that safety procedures are known
- To clean weekly all boarders’ rooms, bathrooms, offices, and common areas
- To maintain control of bedding and linen inventories, and to ensure that it is washed and changed at least fortnightly
- To maintain stock levels and the control of cleaning equipment and supplies
- To ensure all clothing is regularly washed

**Additional duties**
- To assist the Houseparent in ensuring the standards within the house meet the National Minimum Standards for Boarding
- To be aware of school policy on all important matters, especially safeguarding, compliance and health & safety
- To carry out any other reasonable duties relating to the job as required by the Houseparent or the Head

**Optionally**
- To get involved with the co-curricular programme of the school by offering enrichment clubs during lunchtime for additional hourly compensation

**Person Specification**

**_ Essential Qualifications and Experience
- **
- Previous experience of working with young people
- Clean driving licence
- Organizational and administrative skills
- First Aid qualification (or willingness to undergo training)
- Food Safety qualification (or willingness to undergo training)

- Awareness of National Minimum Standards for Boarding
- Appropriate awareness of health and safety
