**About this job**:
This role is part of the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham Culture and Heritage Service. The purpose of this role is to lead on the conception and delivery of the Women’s Museum. The role is managed by the Senior Curator for Culture Programmes and will work closely with the Curator for New Town Culture and Culture and Heritage Co-ordinator. The Women’s Museum is a new artistic, social and project space in the heart of Barking. It will support collaboration and participation relating to the experiences of women and girls through the lens of art and culture. The Women’s Museum will be bravely outspoken on issues affecting women and girls, trans and non-binary communities and connected to organisations and services led by and for women and girls in London.

The space will open in March 2024 with an inaugural exhibition curated by Nephertiti Oboshie Schandorf. This role will be based Thurs-Sat at the Women’s Museum in Barking.

**Special requirements for this post**:

- Work with the Senior Curator for Cultural Programmes to plan and deliver the Women’s Museum programme working with artists, cultural partners, local services, groups and individuals.
- Develop collaborative relationships with national and local artists and cultural partners that result in new creative programmes and projects at the Women’s Museum.
- Be the main point of contact for the Women’s Museum internally and externally and work across LBBD Council coordinating practical aspects of delivery of the programme.
- Lead on documentation and external communication of the Women’s Museum. Work with LBBD colleagues, press, external partners and communications teams to ensure the programme is communicated effectively through the programme website, publicity, press and social media.
- Engage and mobilise residents and teams across the council to take part in the programme; being the champion of the space at events, in meetings, and in correspondence.
- Commission and manage artists for the delivery of projects including exhibitions, workshops, events and resources.
- Manage operational delivery of exhibitions, conferences, training and other public events at the space including employing installation and conservation teams.
- Maintain clear financial records, hold responsibility for management of cash, process purchase orders and invoices, liaise with creditors and debtors to ensure smooth running of budget.
- Be main keyholder for the Women’s Museum site.
- Must be able to work on fixed days Thurs, Fri and Saturday and on some evenings based at the Women’s Museum in Barking.

**About you**:
You are a curator or cultural programmer with a strong track record of commissioning and delivering artistic projects with artists and communities in relation to social issues, ideas and contexts. The role will support collaboration and participation relating to the experiences of women and girls, trans and non-binary communities through the lens of art and culture.

**About us**:
This role is line managed by the Senior Curator for Culture Programmes, in the Culture and Heritage Service in Barking and Dagenham Council. The Women's Museum is a new public cultural space with the long term ambition to establish a public programme of exhibitions and events, and a safe space for local groups to meet and build new networks.
