About the role:

To undertake research into and make publicly accessible the Nile valley collections, particularly those that relate to ancient Egyptian religious and/or daily life practices from New Kingdom to Roman period, in support of the Museum’s masterplan, the Museum Operating Plan and all relevant Museum strategies. The post holder will be expected to develop a research project during this period on an area of the collection that would benefit from further documentation.

 

Key areas of responsibility:

  • To lead a research project on the department's archaeological collections that relate to ancient Egypt, including projects involving external partners. 
  • To make the collections and knowledge about ancient Egyptian religious and/or daily life practices from New Kingdom to Roman period publicly accessible via publication, digital, display, and broadcast. 
  • To contribute to the redisplay of the collection, and to improve the display of the collection in the Museum and elsewhere both on- and off-site.
  • To support on upgrading the documentation of the collections that relate to Ancient Egypt. 
  • To participate in the Museum’s public programme, delivering talks, seminars, lectures, participating in and organizing conferences and seminars and broadcasts.
  • To contribute to storage projects on- and off-site.

About you:

  • BA/BSc (or equivalent) in relevant subject
  • Experience of research, fieldwork, and publication
  • Some experience of working with a collection
  • Some experience of management issues (people, projects, budgets)
  • Some publications in peer reviewed journals
  • Experience of developing temporary or touring exhibitions, or a gallery refurbishment (Desirable)
  • Experience of engaging the public in Nile valley archaeology (Desirable)
  • Strong and broad familiarity with the material culture and archaeology of the Nile valley (Desirable)
