**About the role**:
The British Museum is seeking a Project Curator: Archaeological Archives to join the Collection Projects and Resources department. The main purpose of this role is to work as part of a project to improve the documentation and organisation of the British Museum’s fieldwork archives for archaeological assemblages held at the new British Museum Archaeological Research Collection (BM_ARC) in Reading. The postholder will contribute to post-excavation archiving and site assessment to help rationalise archaeological fieldwork archives (site records) and build an understanding of the research potential of the collection.

**Key areas of responsibility**:

- To contribute to the assessment and rationalisation of historically excavated archaeological site archives (excavation records).
- To contribute to upgrading the documentation of archaeological site archives (excavation records).
- To contribute to improving the accessibility of these archives for research purposes.
- To work as a member of a project team, including specialist staff in other departments.
- To change the focus of work as needed in line with project priorities, as advised by line manager
- To build an understanding of museums and archaeological archiving standards
- Other duties as assigned
