Are you looking for a communications role where you can make a real difference?

We’re looking for an experienced media professional to join our busy news team - to help respond to the thousands of media enquiries we receive every year and help show how Norfolk Constabulary is tackling and preventing and keeping communities safe.

You’ll work in a small team and be responsible for handling routine, sensitive and complex media enquiries, leading communications for high profile investigations, incidents, and police operations, as well as playing a key role in the 24/7 on-call cover.

Working alongside police officers of all ranks and staff across various roles, you’ll deal with wide range of communications responsibilities, offering professional advice, developing communications plans and key messages for specific cases, operations, and campaigns. Your work will involve dealing with everything from advising Senior Investigating Officers on media strategies, to helping with appeals for missing people and highlighting positive results such as arrests, charges, and court outcomes.

We’re looking for someone who understands how to tailor messages for a variety of channels, including traditional and digital media, and the experience and confidence of advising officers and staff about the best ways to get their message across. You’ll need to think on your feet, prioritise and make informed decisions based on your communications experience.

The successful applicant will be required to fulfil on-call duties in the evenings and weekends on a rota basis. You must have the capability to travel to different locations in the county.

A curriculum vitae (CV) is acceptable in the first instance but must indicate how the below essential criteria is met.

**It is essential that applicants meet the following criteria**:

- Relevant professional journalistic, marketing or PR qualification (NCTJ or CIM or equivalent); or recent practical experience in a similar role
- Experience of working in a fast moving media or news office, in an editorial role
- Demonstrate the ability to work on own initiative
- Evidence of ability to successfully communicate with a range of different audiences
- Knowledge and experience of using social media networks
- Good keyboard skills and competency using Microsoft Office
- Ability to travel and attend remote locations across Suffolk/Norfolk (as applicable)
- Flexibility regarding working hours to participate in an out-of-hours on-standby Communications Officer rota (weekends and/or evenings)

**It is desirable that applicants meet the following criteria**:

- Thorough knowledge of legal reporting restrictions for police and media

Hours of work are 37 per week Monday to Friday, with the requirement to fulfil on-call duties in the evenings and weekends on a rota basis. This post is offered on a temporary basis.

Consideration will be given to whether the post can be delivered on either a part time or job share basis, in line with the organisational requirements of this role.
