The Role

The project is funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) School for Public Health Research (SPHR) and will involve a mapping study of maternity care services, interviews with professionals and women and birthing people with experiences of pregnancy/parenthood on a low income, and survey research to explore the costs of accessing maternity services.

This is a full time post, fixed term for 18 months

Interviews will be held w/c 16th October 2023

Key Accountabilities
- Clear knowledge and experience of qualitative/mixed methods research.
- Collaborating with other researchers of different levels of experience/seniority in other regions to undertake research deliverables (e.g., mapping exercises)
- Contribute to patient and public involvement activities across the project.
- Contribute to the day to day running of the project.
- Attend meetings and other events appropriate to the project.
- Carry out high quality applied research within agreed timelines, meeting project milestones and to an appropriate standard.
- Evidence of ability to lead peer-reviewed publications and disseminate findings at conferences nationally and internationally as required.
- Ensure that research activity and data are consistent with current research governance instructions and Data Protection legislation; ensure that research activity and data management meet the demands of new instructions and legislation as these come into effect and keep appropriate records.
- Identify and undertake a programme of professional development, including further training in research methods, development of research proposals or funding bids and other transferable skills.
- Contribute to the activities of the NIHR SPHR at Newcastle University and partner Universities and across other relevant research infrastructures regionally and nationally.
- Work with relevant stakeholders including members of the public to ensure research is relevant to their needs.
- Carry out administrative tasks and other duties to support the Institute and NIHR SPHR as required by line manager.

The Person

Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Experience of conducting high quality research with marginalised and minoritised populations (women/people living in poverty, children and families, populations with multiple complex needs)
- Experience of qualitative data collection and analysis
- Ability to carry out research project work within agreed timelines, meeting project milestones and producing research to an appropriate standard
- Experience of mixed methods data collection and analysis (Desirable)
- Experience of co-production approaches and/or creative methods (Desirable)
- Experience of conducting research in the area of maternal and child health (Desirable)
- Evidence of ability to publish in high quality peer reviewed journals (Desirable)
- Ability to present findings at leading health, public health and social science conferences (Desirable)
- Evidence of skills in using relevant data analysis software packages (Desirable)
- Experience of preparing research proposals for submission to competitive funding organisations (e.g. NIHR, UKRI) (Desirable)
- Experience of work within a context of Public Involvement and/or Public Engagement (PPI/E) (Desirable)

**Qualifications**:

- A master’s degree or equivalent qualification (Desirable)
