Senior Clinical Lead

Abingdon, United Kingdom Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Have you got the drive, desire and skill to be part of the First Contact Care Pathway senior management team, providing clinical leadership across the GP Out of Hours service, Minor Injuries Units and First Aid Units?

Our aim within the First Contact Care Pathway is to provide a professional, patient focused service committed to caring with dignity and respect. We are committed to delivering a caring, safe and effective service.

By providing frontline leadership, professional nursing leadership and support to staff on clinical standards and nursing practice, the post holder will be ensuring a focus on patient-centred care that is safe and of high quality. Key to this is ensuring the planning, development and delivery of services that are in line with our corporate strategy for all community services, whilst also contributing to partnership working with other organisations that will improve the integrated health and social care of the local community.

This role will also contribute appropriately to directorate wide tasks/projects within the senior leadership team and other corporate colleagues.

The post holder must develop a culture of clinical improvement, leading by example and empowering clinical staff to improve the care and well-being of patients in this pathway. This means being known and visible to staff, visiting services regularly, being familiar with the patients, their needs and the challenges faced by staff. It means putting person centred at each stage of the care pathway, multi-disciplinary working, including our partners in the acute sector, ambulance services and primary care whilst offering expertise in the management of complex cases. It means acting when clinical standards or performance demand improvement, through the national and local change agenda, in areas such as integrated working and clinical pathways development.

Senior Clinical Leads are leaders who exercise great influence over junior staff, and it is essential that they promote a culture which promotes practice excellence and development for all people in clinical related roles at all stages in their work life, whether as students on placement or coming to the close of a long career. Positive role modelling builds reputation and makes the services those, where people want to work.

You will have an opportunity to work with supportive teams and committed colleagues.

Benefits of working for Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust include:

- Excellent opportunities for career progression
- 27 days annual leave, plus bank holidays, with an increase to 33 days with continuous service
- NHS Discount across a wide range of shops, restaurants and retailers
- Staff accommodation
- Competitive pension scheme
- Lease car scheme
- Cycle to work scheme

The Senior Clinical Leader has pathway wide accountability with the senior leadership team, for trust wide clinical initiatives such as infection control, recruitment and retention, clinical standards, professional development of all registered and unregistered staff (in partnership with the learning and development team) and nursing/AHP leaders in the community directorate and the wider Trust.

Clinical Leadership and Management
- To lead the clinical team, providing visible, accessible, clinical leadership to staff delivering clinical care within Oxfordshire’s First Contact Care Pathway and lead by example in the delivery of high standards of clinical care that is person centred.
- To build an effective clinical network with other professionals and leaders - this is a key element in effective leadership and the promotion of an outstanding service for patients using First Contact Care Services.
- The Senior Clinical Lead is the operational line manager for the Modern Matron for the First Contact Care Pathway and is therefore responsible for ensuring that their staff practice meets the requirements of the Trust. This includes meeting CQC clinical quality standards, skills and learning such as mandatory training or knowledge about the way the Trust manages and organises operations, including budgetary management.
- The post holder will also be part of the team that provides operational line management to a number of medics working in this pathway.
- The post holder will also work towards ensuring clear lines of authority and accountability are well established.

**The Post holder will**:

- Be actively and visibly involved in the delivery of patient care, ensuring that you are known and accessible to nursing, therapy, paramedic and medical staff - by visiting services regularly, knowing about the patients, their needs and the challenges faced by your staff. This means person centred care at each stage of the care pathway. You should attain the standards of care required in the Trust and evidenced in audits and national surveys, including the CQC standards, NICE and National Patient Survey. You will need to meet regularly with the clinical leads, AHP teams and medical staff to review clini
