- To support staff in the delivery of best practice techniques, regarding moving and handling
- To promote a safety culture to enhance staff health and patient safety
- To train staff in correct techniques for moving and handling

Main Tasks

2.2 To work in partnership withthe managers & Key Workers

2.3 To liaise with the appropriate personnel regarding the moving and handling training requirements of the trust and ensure that trainingmeets the statutory requirements and organisational needs.

2.4 To communicate with managers regarding training needs of employees

2.5 To plan and organise appropriate training sessions to meet the Trusts requirements

2.6 To establish and maintain a directory of manual handling equipment within the training are.

2.7 To assist and participate with equipment audits.

We employ more than 6,500 staff who deliver compassionate care from our two main hospitals, Calderdale Royal Hospital and Huddersfield Royal Infirmary as well as in community sites, health centres and in patients’ homes. We also are incredibly proud to have almost 150 volunteers here at CHFT.

We provide a range of services including urgent and emergency care; medical; surgical; maternity; gynaecology; critical care; children’s and young people’s services; end of life care and outpatient and diagnostic imaging services.

We provide community health services, including sexual health services in Calderdale from Calderdale Royal and local health centres. These include Todmorden Health Centre and Broad Street Plaza.

We continue to modernise and invest in our health services to build on our strong reputation. Foundation trusts are public leaders in improving quality in health services. They are part of the NHS - yet decisions about what they do and how they do it are driven by independent boards. Boards listen to their Council of Governors and respond to the needs of their members - patients, staff and the local community.

Foundation trusts provide what the health service wants, yet are also free to invest quickly in the changes to the local community needs, in striving to be the best, and in putting their patients first.

3.1To Promote an ergonomic to risk assessment and in setting up safe systems of

3.2To Provide support and advice to staff in the handling of complex patients.

3.3To support the provision of a problem-solving service within the clinical and none

Clinical Environment

3.4To implement the delivery of effective moving and handling training programmes for all staff groups within the trust, ensuring best practice is transferred to the workplace.

3.5 To assess compliance and competencies through audit to ensure that moving and handling practices comply with legislative and trust policy requirements.

1. Professional Duties

4.1To investigate and report on adverse manual handling incidents and moving and handling complaints.

4.2To undertake moving and handling Assessments as and when required

4.3To contribute to the development of policies to support moving and handling procedures within the trust, including formulating local safe systems of work

4.5To produce and implement a plan to support the trusts strategy for managing moving and handling training programme.

4.6To establish guidelines for foreseeable problems e.g., equipment requirements, bariatric patients etc and ensure appropriate training has been delivered.

4.7To initiate audit where there is cause for concern with regards to moving and handling procedures and produce reports for managers and health and safety committee where action is necessary.

4.8To provide the evidence-based research when required to back up audit and advice.

7. Managing Self

7.1Participate in regular supervision

7.2Attend all mandatory training

7.3Participate annually identifying, developing and agreeing your own development plan with your line manager using the trust Appraisal process.

7.4Comply with all trust policies, procedures and protocols.

Carry out duties with due regard to the trusts equal opportunity policy.

Seek advice and support from line manager whenever necessary.

7.5Maintain professional conduct always including appearance at all times.

7.6Ensure maintenance of professional registration

There are extensive learning centres at both Calderdale royal hospital and Huddersfield royal infirmary, both centres are equipped with audio visual equipment. There is also a library at Calderdale royal hospital site with a full range of journals plus internet and electronic access.
