To work as part of the orthoptic clerical team to support the effective delivery of orthoptic services within Paediatric and Adult ophthalmology.

To add patient referrals to the Orthoptic waitlist and to ensure orthoptic clinics are booked to capacity from the appropriate waitlists. To print referrals from the E-referral system (Choose & Book).

To book / amend / patient appointments in Orthoptic/specialist clinics as required i.e. contact lens clinic / post-operative cataract clinic.

To locate and collect, dock and prepare medical notes in a timely fashion for orthoptic led clinics. To ensure that any loose papers are filed in patients notes.

To provide reception desk duties as required.

To monitor and order stationery supplies as required.

To participate in training and mandatory training as required.

Applications are invited for this permanent part-time post (24 hours per week) to join a team of 2 Orthoptic clerks supporting the Orthoptic Department. Orthoptics is a sub-speciality of Ophthalmology providing eye care for children and adults within Walsall.

The post holder will provide reception desk duties for the Orthoptic department and wider team if appropriate. The post involves general patient administration including dealing with e-outcome reports, managing access plans and supporting members of the Orthoptic team administratively.

The post-holder will be required to assist colleagues in docking, prepping and retrieving notes.

**Additional duties to those listed above include**:
To be able to liaise with GP surgeries regarding queries relating to patient details and referrals.

To work in conjunction with clinical staff and clerical colleagues in dealing with general enquiries relating to the orthoptic department and orthoptic clinic appointments.

To communicate effectively with other members of the Orthoptic team, consultant ophthalmologists, medical and nursing staff, GPs, and other outside agencies.

To be able to book interpreting services.

To communicate effectively with patients and carers regarding their orthoptic clinic appointments.

To cover the duties of orthoptic clerical colleagues during periods of sickness and annual leave.
