Applicants should note that DBS has recently undertaken a review of its operational locations in the North West, and will consolidate all activities in Blackpool. This means that DBS staff will move from both Walker House (Liverpool) and Cheadle Hulme in the late Summer of 2023 and initially relocate to Tomlinson House (Norcross). A further move, to the new Government Hub at Talbot Gateway in Blackpool, is scheduled to take place in 2026.
As a result, all vacant DBS posts in the North West will be advertised at Tomlinson House (Norcross). There is, however, an expectation that all DBS staff, irrespective of their agreed duty station, will travel to other DBS and/or MOD site(s), as required, to complete all necessary training and to participate in team or additional collaborative activities - detached duty terms may apply. Terms of transfer have been negotiated for DBS posts relocating in the North West. DBS also supports Flexible Working, which can be discussed in more detail at interview.
**Job description**:
The Operational Deliver Profession (ODP) is well established across Government; however, within the Ministry of Defence (MOD) we are very much at the start of our journey to embed ODP as one of our key business professions. Defence Business Services (DBS) is the main Shared Services provider within MOD and, as such, ODP is a key profession for our organisation. The CEO of DBS is the MOD’s Head of Profession (HoP) for ODP.
Our ODP vision is for all ODP colleagues in MOD to feel part of a professional community and for all to know how and when to access our operational-specific development and progression support. This will be achieved by:
- Using clear marketing and communication;
- Working with capability leads and partners;
- Ensuring our services are easy to find;
- Ensuring the ODP career pathway within MOD is clear, easy to understand and relevant for all Defence employees identified as being part of the ODP profession;
- Maintaining support networks;
- Championing innovation; and,
- Carefully evaluating progress.
Whilst this role is part of the DBS People and Communications Team, the role responsibilities, in support of the MOD’s ODP HoP extend across the whole of MOD.
This dedicated role will help support and drive ambitions in MOD to mature our ODP and to establish ODP as a key profession.
This role will be central to achieving this vision and will also help shape our longer term ODP plans and support.
