Cost Controller

An opportunity has arisen to join an innovative and diverse Energy Industry service provider. We are seeking a Cost Controller to join our team based in Normanton, Wakefield with regular travel to Cramlington, Northumberland.
You will play a pivotal role in controlling project costs through cost analysis and reporting and ideally have a strong demonstrable background within a project or cost environment.
**As a Cost Controller your duties will include**:
Reporting into the Financial Controller your responsibilities will include:
- Tracking jobs/projects to ensure gross margins remain in line with quotes
- Flag when a project exceeds >80% of sales PO value
- Collate signed off revenue packages for invoicing
- Tracking WIP
- Ensuring all project POs are aligned with their respective approved project costing sheets and where applicable, the rates correspond to the most recently negotiated and agreed rates
- Ensuring all POs are approved in accordance with the authority matrix
- Ensuring all POs are receipted on a timely and accurate basis in correct periods
- Regular follow-up of un-receipted POs with regular updates to Procurement Manager and Finance
- Ensuring all POs relate to the preferred suppliers (TBD by Procurement Manager)
- Matching supplier invoices to POs in the system and analysing and investigating significant purchase price variances (PPVs) or volume variances (PVVs).
- Regular reporting to Procurement Manager of significant PPVs and PVVs so that project costing standards can be updated if necessary as soon as possible
- Raising POs in the system if required
- Also applies to all capex purchasing activity
- Ensuring all costs and cost accruals are allocated to the correct project codes on a right first time basis
- Analyse all other information provided by suppliers to ensure it aligns with the associated project activities and locations etc e.g. litres of fuel consumed and mileage, number of contractor hours billed etc
- Tracking all supplier costs/rates, quickly identifying significant changes with immediate internal escalation
- Monitoring company credit card usage
- Checking employee expense claims
- Performing regular spot checks across all purchasing activity
**What you will need to succeed**:
- Demonstrable role with relevant financial experience within an operational cost or projects environment
- Demonstrates initiative and ownership to identify improvements in order to drive change
- Create and maintain effective collaborative relationships across site teams
- You will possess a strong commercial acumen, with an ability to scrutinise data and identify improvements
- Excellent analytical skills, and an ability to work with detail and high accuracy
- IT literate across the MS Suite, proficient in Microsoft Excel (including advanced pivots/lookups etc)
- Excellent communication and influencing skills, both verbal, written and in person across a range of internal and external stakeholders
- Strong planning and organising skills, to meet strict deadlines for reporting
- Driving licence and prepared to travel where required
