An exciting opportunity has arisen in the pharmacy department at Northamptonshire Healthcare Foundation Trust. Based at Berrywood Hospital, Northampton, you will play a vital role in the pharmacy team. Working with a team of Clinical Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians you will be responsible for supporting medicine ordering for wards and departments across the Trust.

Your primary role as a Pharmacy Assistant will be to support to the stock management within wards and departments within Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. This will involve regular travel between sites delivering NHFT services.

You will work closely with our 3 rd Party supply service in supporting the provision of stock medicines to wards and services, ordering according to agreed stock lists and managing supplies from the provider to wards and departments.

A strong team spirit and good communication skills will be required; you must be able to both manage your own workload and work as part of a team.

You may either already have some experience of hospital pharmacy activities or be willing to work towards this with our support. The Trust is committed to developing the talents of its employees through a disseminated leadership model.

Handling medicines and equipment

Completing documentation and using database software to keep appropriate records

Visiting wards and departments across Trust sites to undertake regular stock orders

Undertake routine stock orders for specific wards and departments

Liaise with nursing, pharmacy supplier and NHFT pharmacy staff to discuss stock availability issues

To assist with the maintenance and development of department medication stock lists

To challenge inappropriate practice relating to medicines use and escalate concerns where required according to Trust Policy

To support the ordering, stock management and distribution of over-labelled and pre-packed medication for specified departments

Raise any concerns with appropriate management to ensure all legal and local requirements are met

Support nursing and pharmacy teams in the management of pharmaceutical waste at ward level

To assist in the maintenance of the out of hours cupboards and emergency boxes
