**JOB: UK Logistics and Transportation Manager**

**LOCATION: Cockermouth, Cumbria**

**SALARY: up to £55k plus benefits**

My client is looking to appoint a Logistics and Transportation Manager to manage all inbound and outbound logistics activities in Cockermouth through a team of logistics professionals.

Previous line management experience in an operational/warehouse/manufacturing environment.

People manager: experience in guiding and motivating co-workers

Ability to operate in an Unionized Environment

Experience in optimizing logistics operations

Demonstrated experience of delivering continuous improvement projects

My client seeks someone who has Degree or Qualifications in Business Administration, Logistics or Supply Chain

Ideally you will have APICS

Black Belt six sigma certified would be desirable, but not essential

You will be responsible for driving operational and service excellence ensuring performance targets across Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost and People are met.

Additionally, you will be responsible for all transportation and carrier management activities from other company manufacturing sites.

**Key responsibilities will include**:
- Ensure health and safety standards are met in line with company standards and targets. Create a safe working environment for employees by putting in place safety measures and audits to prevent accident and complications that may arise during work. Ensurehigh standards of house-keeping is in place at all times.
- Drive year on year continues service level and cost improvements to deliver a best in class operation.
- Initiation and management of logistics improvement projects
- Day to day management of logistics activities on site ensuring efficient and effective management of all resources, equipment and 3rd party carriers
- Develop and maintain good stock control processes through daily cycle counts to drive high levels of inventory accuracy
- Meet cost, productivity, accuracy and OTIF targets. Maintaining metrics, departmental performance boards, analyze data to assess performance and implement improvement
- Manage all physical inbound and outbound shipments to ensure prompt receipt and shipment of the customer orders in line with the promise dates to the customers
- Manage the shipping process including the creation of all necessary transportation documentation needed for each shipment in line with legal country requirements and international trade laws. Completion of any customs and excise documentation.
- Inspect goods to be delivered to ensure that they are in the right quantity and quality. Supervise the loading of such goods into vehicles for delivery
- Attend the daily production and scheduling meetings and take appropriate action to ensure orders are 'expedited’ in conjunction with the plan and concise feedback on progress is provided.
- Ensure all standard operating procedures are up to date and adhered to by the Logistics department. Comply with laws, regulations and ISO requirements
- Improve customer experience. Resolve any logistics complaints and issues raised
- Setting the agreed logistics budget and reporting on variances with corrective actions to ensure budget is achieved each month.
- Ensures correct communication and transfer of knowledge and information within the logistics department as well as between departments on site
- Supervise, coach, train and motivate all Logistics employees on site. Provide regular feedback on progress and the performance of the staff
- Create and manage transportation tender processes and manage carrier improvements
- Drive transportation cost and service improvements for all manufacturing companies within the group in line with the overall transportation management strategy
- Ensure timely delivery of monthly and quarterly performance reporting
Proven working experience as a logistics manager

Record of successful distribution and logistics management

Demonstrable ability to lead and manage staff with a "Can-do" attitude

Lean and continuous improvements experience

Ability to build great internal and external customer relationships

Leading, motivating and developing skills. Team Builder

Excellent analytical, problem solving, planning and organizational skills

Excellent communication skills

Ability to work independently and handle multiple projects

Carrier Management and carrier negotiation experience

ERP knowledge and IT literate (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
