Are you a dietitian with a sound range of clinical experience and an interest in working within Cystic Fibrosis? Do you have a passion for improving patient outcomes with best nutritional care? We have a fixed term opportunity for a part-time (0.8WTE) Cystic Fibrosis Advanced Practice Dietitian (Band 7), available at Nottingham University Hospitals (NUH) NHS Trust.

Main duties of the job

NUH is looking for an experienced dietitian with a strong ability to work independently. The post holder will be required to work with our Cystic Fibrosis MDT Team and supervise a band 6 specialist cystic fibrosis specialist dietitian. The role is based at the City Hospital Campus.

This post is ideal for a dietitian wishing to develop their clinical, leadership and service development skills. They will develop and take part in education events, student training/ staff teaching and lead dietetic audit and service developments.

Working for our organisation

We are a large and friendly department of around 100 staff including assistants and technicians providing dietetic and nutrition support across all areas of the Trust and beyond. The Service has good IT facilities and a dedicated group of non-registered staff who help provide dietetic support. Peer support would be available from dietitians working in other specialties at both campuses and external Cystic Fibrosis services, through established dietetic relations.

As a service, we are committed to continuing professional development for all our staff through a range of opportunities that include recognised training courses, involvement in service development and audit.

The Trust is committed to providing excellent nutritional care, led by its Nutrition and Hydration Steering committee. We have close links with the University of Nottingham, and take student dietitians for A, B and C placements.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

You’ll need to have excellent communication and leadership skills, be adaptable and confident to work autonomously and with other members of staff within a supportive multi-disciplinary team. We expect you to be enthusiastic, motivated, able to evidence continuing professional
development and keen to develop yourself and others. Experience of nutritional support in Cystic Fibrosis is essential.

**Qualifications**:
Essential criteria
- HCPC registration
- Diploma or degree in relevant qualification
- Evidence of Master's level study or working towards
- Able to maintain professional portafolio CPD
- Evidnece of post registration education/courses

Experience

Essential criteria
- Wide ranging and extensive experience of working within specialist area
- Experience of delegating to and supervising other members of the team
- Able to plan and deliver clinical education about theory and practice to individuals, team and the wider MDT (including students)
- Knowledge of current best practice within a clinical specialty
- Knowledge of national and local standards and national guidelines
- Able to undertake evidence based audit of own practice and the practice of other staff within a specific clinical area
- Able to evaluate current research and make recommendations for change in practice and implement these changes

Analytical and judgement skill

Essential criteria
- Able to reflect and critically appraise own performance and the performance of other staff
- Risk assessment skills for the safe management and discharge of very complex patients
- Analyse information from clinical assessments and make judgements about appropriate interventions for highly complex patients
- Use reasoning skills and knowledge of a range of treatment options to formulate and deliver specialist treatment programmes
- Able to make decisions about the treatment needs of highly complex patients
- Able to make decisions about the allocation of a caseload to a team of staff
- Able to make judgements about the prioritising of caseloads when demand exceeds capacity and to re-allocate staffing resources
- Lead on the development of improvements in service delivery and clinical practice using evidence based practice to recommend changes

Communication

Essential criteria
- Evidence of working within MDT
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Able to discuss treatment options and recommend best course of intervention to patients and carers using negotiating, persuasive, motivational and reassurance skills
