The Airspace Regulation team have responsibility for providing regulatory, policy and implementation of UK airspace arrangements and for providing aviation stakeholders with advice and guidance on airspace issues related to operations conducted within UK Airspace.

**The Role**

In close collaboration with the Airspace Data Regulators, you will, as an Airspace Data Specialist, assist with the origination, validation, and approval of critical geospatial data.

Duties include:

- Manage the geospatial data used in the Arc Geographic Information System (GIS) solution and support other members of the Airspace Regulation (AR) team.
- Maintain data and contribute to processes and policies.
- Support UK Airspace Data regulators with securing & managing 5 Letter Name Codes.
- Liaise with National Air Traffic Services (NATS) to support the publication of London Thames Helicopter Crossing statistics in CAP1455 and CAP1456.
- Assist data regulators whilst validating & approving (Non-Instrument Flight Procedure (IFP) relayed data) airspace geospatial data, bearings, distances and location of visual features contained within the Airspace Change Process (CAP1616).
- Ensure data quality standards are met.
- Provide accurate data to stakeholders, Airspace Regulation and NATS Aeronautical Information System (AIS)
- Contribute to the gradual transition to Aeronautical Information Exchange Model (AIXM) data exchange.
- Integration of new, aviation and non-aviation planning developments to support existing aviation activity and infrastructure.
- Liaising, with and supporting aviation stakeholders such as, planning authorities, government bodies, parish councils and non-government organisations or individuals.
- Contribute to UK policy documents and formulation of other policies for Airspace Regulation which impact the origination/validation and exchange of relevant airspace data.
- Collate and report on safety intelligence, information, and analysis for various Stakeholders.
- Develop and maintain knowledge of aviation development, geodesy, cartography, and data quality.

**About You**

**Essential**:

- Knowledge of UK airspace, airspace classifications and published airspace structures.
- Knowledge of both the UK aviation regulation framework and the UK Integrated Aeronautical Information Publication (IAIP)
- Experience with ArcGIS software solutions
- Understanding of current and developing European Union (EU) and International Civil Aviation Authority (ICAO) regulations, specifically related to the quality requirements for Aeronautical Data Management.
- An understanding of the Airspace Change Proposal (ACP) process as described in CAP 1616.
- Work collaboratively within a wider multi-disciplined team demonstrating strong interpersonal skills with a flexible and collaborative approach.
- Able to prioritise a broad remit of work, manage expectations and ensure delivery of critical safety date in a timely and appropriate.
- Confident to engage and communicate at all levels both verbally and with written communications.
- Confident to influence and establish personal credibility with technical specialists and develop constructive relationships across all levels throughout the CAA and externally.
- Have experience of MS Office packages, with extensive data manipulation skills in Excel.

**Desirable**:

- Knowledge of the CAA and UK aviation industry
- Understanding of key legislations that influence and determine the CAA’s role as an airspace regulator, for example the Civil Aviation Act, Air Navigation Order, Rules of the Air Regulations and MAA Regulatory Publications.

**Additional Information**

For many appointments within the CAA, these roles require access to operationally sensitive infrastructure and/or Nationally Protected information. For these roles the post holders must undergo National Security Vetting and achieve the appropriate level of clearance.
