Gatwick Airport, United Kingdom Civil Aviation Authority Full time

**Date**:20 Nov 2023

**Location**: Gatwick, GB

**Company**:Civil Aviation Authority

**Salary**:£55,000 to £69,894 (dependent upon qualifications, experience and licences if held)

**Contract Type**:Permanent - Full Time

We are the UK's aviation and aerospace regulator and recognised as a world leader in its field. Our activities are diverse, enabling the aviation industry to meet the highest safety standards, and we pride ourselves on our ability to adapt to the constantly evolving aviation environment.

**The Role**

Ensuring the development of effective airspace and air traffic service policy for the UK is one of the most vital functions that the CAA provides. The aviation industry has always been one of the most innovative and today we are seeing the emergence of new and exciting developments in many different areas. Space and high-level operations, Advanced Air Mobility and unmanned aircraft will join the existing highly mature aviation environment in the UK, and the CAA has a large part to play in enabling that innovation whilst at the same time, maintaining high standards in safety and economic regulation.

Your primary role will be the creation of guidance and policy that allows the CAA to continue to ensure the safe and efficient use of UK airspace, whilst delivering innovation and providing specialist knowledge on airspace and air traffic service operations. This will require you to combine your broad experience with an innovative approach and be able to develop novel solutions to often sophisticated technical or operational problems.

As well as this, a core part of the role involves working collaboratively with a wide range of national and international stakeholders to identify and understand industry objectives and developments, which will help inform and shape the necessary regulatory landscape. To support this, you must be able to effectively analyse, prioritise and utilise intelligence and information from a wide range of sources. This will be further supported by your ability to develop positive relationships, engage with a variety of stakeholders and encourage productive communication.

**About You**
- Be able to work on your own initiative with mínimal guidance and have high levels of commitment, reliability, and flexibility, whilst being a great teammate
- Demonstrate a broad understanding of the UK airspace operational environment, developed through a background in flight crew or air traffic management
- Possess a deep understanding of UK and international regulatory requirements and other non-regulatory material relating to airspace and air traffic management
- Ideally have experience of the creation, development, or interpretation of policy
- Possess strong communication skills, both written and oral, that will enable you to engage with partners at all levels throughout the CAA and externally
- Be able to develop and maintain strong networks to facilitate collaborative working
- A problem solver that has the ability to listen, consider, and be open-minded
- Able to take a measured and pragmatic view that is open to modernisation and innovation concepts, whilst ensuring a strong focus on maintaining or improving the safety and efficiency of UK airspace

**Additional Information**

For many appointments within the CAA, these roles require access to operationally sensitive infrastructure and/or Nationally Protected information. For these roles the post holders must undergo National Security Vetting and achieve the appropriate level of clearance.

To be vetted we will usually expect a reasonable period of residency in the UK so that meaningful checks can be undertaken. For this role this will need to be 3 years.

The CAA values high ethical standards and personal integrity among employees. If invited for interview you will be asked to complete a declaration of interest.

**Working With Us**

We offer a range of excellent benefits such as flexible working arrangements, free onsite gym at Gatwick, discounted gym membership for London, 28 days annual leave, additional 5 days leave purchase scheme, a generous pension scheme and much more

We are on a journey towards being increasingly adaptable, where our colleagues collaborate as part of cross-functional teams. This approach ensures we never stop learning together. It also means that you may become involved in activities that take you out of your day-to-day role, providing you with opportunities to develop and grow your career with us.

We have embraced hybrid working and offer flexible working patterns, being open to having a conversation about what works for you. We know where and when we work is important in achieving a work-life balance.

**Our Values**

Do The Right Thing, Never Stop Learning, Build Collaborative Relationships, Respect Everyone
