The London Borough of Havering is looking to recruit two Consultants in Public Health (total 1.5 wte’s) to complete a team of 3 wte consultants working with the Director of Public Health to provide public health leadership within the Council, the health and care system and the wider community.

Over the next four years, Havering Council will focus its resources and efforts on delivering the things that are important for our residents whilst continuing to shape the borough to be a great place to live, work and enjoy. Our new vision for 2027 sets out an ambitious agenda against three core themes of: People; Place; and Resources. The Council is adopting a new target-operating model (TOM) to deliver these aspirations. You will contribute to the further development of the TOM and ensure that the Public Health Service adopts and adapts to the new ways of working and thereby achieves the best possible outcomes for residents.

The TOM will see the whole Council reorganised under the three themes of People, Place and Resources. You will provide expert public health advice and leadership to one of these themes. You will oversee commissioned services relevant to your theme and advise the DPH on the use the Public Health Grant within your theme and the public health outcomes achieved.

You will assist the DPH to provide public health advice and leadership to elected members including the presentation of relevant programmes of work at the Health and Wellbeing Board.

You will also work with senior public health colleagues and NHS counterparts across North East London, providing technical expertise and visible leadership to improve public health outcomes across the NEL ICS as a whole.

The precise details of your portfolio will be agreed with you after your appointment. You will have the opportunity to take the lead on programmes of work spanning health improvement, health intelligence, health protection and healthcare public health.

You will work with and lead an able and enthusiastic team of public health practitioners, commissioning and insight specialists.

You will have the opportunity to build on existing interests - academic links and involvement in the public health training scheme and innovation are encouraged. Havering Council is an approved training location for Public Health Specialist training and GP placement for Public Health experience.
