Environmental Coordinator

Working as part of the HSQE team, this role is responsible for supporting the environmental and sustainability function and activities by assisting the Environmental and Sustainability Manager in supporting construction projects and helping to drive environmentalperformance improvements throughout the whole company.

The role will touch on a wide variety of environmental and sustainability issues and themes across key priorities in the business and wider construction industry, including the journey to Net Zero Carbon emissions. It will involve regular interaction withmany areas and roles within the business, providing great learning and career development opportunities.

This role would suit a graduate with perhaps some commercial work experience - good written, communication and teamwork skills are essential along with an analytical mind.

Main responsibilities
- Deliver environmental and sustainability support for construction projects, including gathering, managing and reporting information to demonstrate environmental performance compliance (e.g. for BREEAM/LEED/SKA/WELL assessments)
- Support project tenders through identifying, communicating and responding to sustainability requirements
- Maintain ongoing energy, water, waste and circular economy data records and assist with data analysis, carbon footprint calculations and preparation of business performance reports
- Assist in developing and improving sustainability information publications such as product publications, guidance notes, presentations, website content etc.
- Assist with maintenance and continual improvement of the Group's ISO14001 Environmental Management System, including undertaking actions to meet annual environmental objectives
- Assist with activities related to the business' Net Zero Carbon agenda including developing the inventory management system
- Assist with maintaining business membership of industry bodies and certification programmes
- Engage with suppliers to maintain product environmental information records
- Assist with internal and external environmental communications including responding to information requests
- Promote environmental best practice and support environmental awareness campaigns to improve company performance
- Assist organising and promoting internal Environmental & Sustainability training
- Engage with the Group's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme and activities
- Undertake occasional topical research and present findings to team
- Undertake sustainability training and work towards professional membership
- Other duties to support members of the HSQE team as occasionally required

Qualifications/experience/skills
- Environmental or Sustainability related degree (preferably with 'built environment' technical bias); or other degree with strong relevant sustainability module content
- Experience or knowledge of BREEAM, LEED, SKA and WELL assessment schemes will be an advantage
- Have a keen interest in sustainability in the built environment and a base understanding of the impacts of construction on the environment
- Numerate and analytical with good research, data analysis and report writing skills
- Ability to work well as part of a team
- Organised and able to manage and prioritise own workload and plan activities whilst meeting deadlines
- Capable of working on own initiative
- Confidence when communicating with people at all levels and roles within the business
- Strong IT skills and a willingness to learn
- Working towards professional membership of IEMA, CIEEM or other relevant environmental professional body
