Digital Health and Care Wales (DHCW) has an exciting opportunity for a Information Specialist in clinical coding.

We are looking to appoint a highly motivated clinical coding professional who has excellent planning, organisation and communication skills and experience in using IT systems, as well as a passion for clinical coding and service improvement and the ability to think creatively and adapt to new ideas.

The post holder will be part of the clinical classifications and terminology standards team, working effectively with IT specialists, clinicians, informaticists and the wider clinical coding service.

They will be responsible for undertaking a wide variety of tasks, including standards creation, answering helpdesk queries, helping create clinical coding training content, and improving data quality.

The successful applicant will provide a vital and dynamic role in the national clinical classification and terminology standards team to support the clinical coding service in Wales.

Lead on the development of national clinical coding standards.

Ensure the timely publication of new clinical coding standards.

Research the current practices being undertaken by other Home Countries in relation to clinical coding Standards and data flows.

Communicate with a range of people at varying levels, both within their local and external working environment regarding clinical coding.

Support the provision of detailed information on secondary use issues relating to the implementation of clinical coding standards.

Produce the required Clinical Coding Change Notice (CCCN) for all approved new information standards.

Undertake clinical coding impact assessments across Wales to measure the impact of the introduction of new clinical coding standards, which involves interacting with senior clinical coding and information managers.

Present proposed changes to relevant national groups.

Create responses to clinical coding queries regarding the correct assignment of classification codes.

Analyse the implication of adopting new clinical coding standards in NHS Wales.

Plan the development of concurrent new Welsh clinical coding standards, prioritising appropriately.

Assist the National Clinical Coding Training Leads in planning and organising training courses.
