Therapy Assistant Trauma

We are looking for 2 Therapy Assistants to join our growing Orthopaedic Therapy Team at St Peter’s Hospital.
You will work as part of a team to provide treatment and rehabilitation to patients following orthopaedic surgery on our orthopaedic wards. The team treats a wide variety of conditions such as, fractured neck of femurs, spinal fractures, upper and lower limb trauma and Ilizarov surgery. You would be supported and supervised by qualified Physiotherapy and Occupational therapy staff and assisted in developing your clinical skills through teaching, supervision and appraisal.
We are looking for someone with proven experience in direct patient care in the NHS, Social Care or similar setting. You will need to show evidence of an understanding of the role of a therapy assistant. Good IT, communication and organisational skills as essential as part of the role involves recording activity on the Trust IT system, ordering equipment on line and providing general admin support to the therapists.
To assist the therapy teams on the wards, offering a range of treatments under the guidance and supervision of qualified staff to facilitate patients reaching their optimum level of independence and social integration.
To support the therapy team in ensuring safe and timely discharges from hospital.
To carry out assigned tasks involving direct patient care for example; exercise programmes, mobility progression, activities of daily living, equipment provision
To ensure any concerns or issues are highlighted and reported back to qualified staff in a timely manner.
Liaise with the multi-disciplinary teams, external agencies, families and carers
The Trust is moving towards 7 day working and this post will be expected to participate in the service across 7 days

**Overview of Responsibilities**:
To be part of the ward therapy team and implement specific treatment programmes or interventions delegated to them by qualified physiotherapy or occupational therapy staff.
To manage own clinical caseload.
To work in close liaison with the qualified staff on the ward (nurses, Physiotherapists, Occupational therapists, Speech and Language therapists) to assist them with their duties.
To carry out rehabilitation as determined by patients’ needs.
To undertake non-clinical duties related to the treatment and management of patients, photocopying, filing, ordering/delivering equipment, recording patient contacts on Trust IT system, arranging follow up appointments etc.
Clinical
To work in collaboration with other team members to provide a rehabilitation service for patients within the speciality, assisting in the implementation of programmes to meet individual needs.
To provide therapeutic intervention for individual patients to maintain or improve function in mobility, social and domestic activities.
To advise on the use and provision of mobility equipment.
To plan treatment programmes, adapting and progressing the rehabilitation of patients within the guidelines set by the assessing physiotherapists. This will include modifying treatments to take account of changes in the patient’s physical and mental state.
To work with patients individually or in groups as directed by qualified therapists.
To work in conjunction with patients and carers on specific issues, as directed by the physiotherapy and occupational therapy staff, and to deal with their concerns a
