Group Tax’s responsibility is to manage the Bank’s worldwide tax position, with responsibilities ranging from advising on the tax consequences of transactions, ensuring compliance with local tax obligations, producing tax data for financial and other reporting purposes, handling tax audits and disputes, to working with industry and governmental bodies on the development of legislation and practice.

You will report directly to the Head of Indirect Tax and will be based in London. Although this is an advisory role, the individual must be willing to contribute in all areas of the team’s work. The team is small and everyone is expected to pitch in to achieve key deliverables, including compliance work at peak times.

**Your key responsibilities**
- Provide support and advice to business product teams in reviewing new products, including providing VAT transactional level rulings. This will involve direct interface with front office teams, as well as colleagues in Corporate M&A and other Infrastructure functions.
- Undertake ‘second line of defence’ review of key risk controls and processes identified for each of the product groups with the aim of assessing whether the controls are operating effectively and engaging in a continuous cycle of process and control improvement.
- Assist in maintaining the inventory of Indirect Taxes across the Region to ensure this is regularly updated.
- Undertake/assist in business VAT reviews.
- Liaise with Tax Authorities in the UK and provide support to Finance coordinators across the wider region in dealing with their local tax authorities.

**Your skills and experience**
- Proven experience of tax advisory work within the tax department of a professional services firm or equivalent experience within the advisory team of an in-house tax function
- A broad base of technical UK/EU VAT knowledge.
- Comfortable handling escalations, consistently communicating and upholding Group Tax requirements through engagement with senior stakeholders; responsive to business and management requests
