**Job description**:
This role sits in the Operations Team within the Transport Security Operation Centre (TSOC), which manages the Department’s response to civil contingency and security issues.

The Watchkeeper is a crucial and central role within TSOC, triaging information to ensure ongoing situational awareness of current and developing issues, allowing the team to respond effectively to incidents that affect the resilience of the transport network. As the first point of contact for the Department as incidents emerge and crises develop, this is an exciting opportunity that affords a level of autonomy for an adaptable person with strong organisational and communication skills.

You will be providing wide-ranging support to the Operations Team with a variety of administrative tasks that ensure the team can respond effectively to security and civil contingencies incidents.

This is an excellent opportunity to build upon your skills and experience in an interesting and fast-paced operational environment at the heart of government. You will need to be resilient, capable of working at pace and happy to work in an environment where roles might need to be flexible at times. You also need to be confident in communicating with peers, seniors and key stakeholders within the DfT family and across Whitehall.

Key accountabilities of the role include:

- Actively monitor and continually develop TSOC’s social-media based horizon-scanning tools to identify major incidents and developing issues, alerting colleagues immediately. In addition, tailoring the horizon scanning tools to strengthen TSOC’s situational awareness during live incidents and major events.
- Issuing TSOC’s monthly Horizon Scanning Product to seniors and ministers, including collating comprehensive information on live issues impacting the transport network, emerging risks, industrial action, and major event planning.
- Co-management and testing of TSOC’s kit and infrastructure, including satellite phones, crisis accounts and DfT equipment at COBR locations.

**Additional Information**

A minimum of 40% of your working time should be spent at your principal workplace, although requirements to attend other locations for official business, or carry out detached duty in another DfT workplace, will also count towards this level of attendance.
