An exciting opportunity has arisen for a 0.5 WTE 8a Clinical Psychologist to support the Adult Emergency Department at Nottingham University Hospitals (NUH) NHS Trust. The Adult Emergency Department Clinical Health Psychology Service is a new service that will support patients with acute, chronic and life-threatening physical health conditions within ED and also support ED staff. The post holder will assist with helping the Consultant Clinical Psychologist working in Adult ED Clinical Health Psychology to develop and deliver this new service.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will have a regular physical presence in the Adult ED department at QMC campus and will also work closely with clinical psychology colleagues working in critical care and major trauma services at NUH.

Working for our organisation

The successful applicant will be warmly welcomed to the rapidly growing Department of Clinical Psychology & Neuropsychology within the Trust. Currently there are over 40 Clinical Psychologists, and Assistant and Trainee Clinical Psychologists working across a number of medical inpatient and outpatient services within the Trust.

We have excellent links with the University of Nottingham, Nottingham Trent University and the regional Clinical Psychology Doctorate Courses.

Person specification

**Qualifications**:
Essential criteria
- Post-graduate doctoral level (or equivalent) training in clinical psychology as accredited by the BPS.
- Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council

Desirable criteria
- Additional training in a specific model such as ACT.
- Undertaken training in the supervision of trainee clinical psychologists

Experience

Essential criteria
- Skills in the use of psychological assessment, intervention, and management, frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration
- Experience of planning and organising own work time and responding to unforeseen situations as they arise.
- Experience of working with people with medical/chronic health conditions
- Experience of and/or knowledge of the theory and practice of highly specialised assessment and psychological therapies for people with a range of health conditions.
- Experience of exercising clinical responsibility for clients’ psychological care and treatment.
- Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team, with other disciplines including medicine and nursing
- Experience of providing supervision and consultation to other clinical staff including psychologists.
- Experience of teaching, training and/or professional and clinical supervision

Desirable criteria
- Experience of working in an acute hospital with patients with medical/chronic health/ Terminal conditions
- Demonstrable experience as a Clinical Psychologist working in a staff support and / or patient setting
- Demonstrable experience as a Clinical Psychologist working in an emergency care setting, or alternatively in a Critical Care or Major Trauma setting.
- Experience of providing a reflective practice space to staff and supporting staff groups.

Communication

Essential criteria
- Excellent skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, highly technical and clinically sensitive information to patients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS
- Ability to work in highly emotive and distressing working conditions that can involve the risk of verbal and physical aggression
- Ability to write clear records and observe policies, procedures and guidelines.
