- To support the smooth running of the Community Services by performing the more routine administration and clinical tasks on behalf of the GP freeing up their time to focus on the patient.
- To support the Practice in the delivery of Community Services, delivering and assisting clinical staff in the provision of treatment.

**PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES**

The following are the core responsibilities of the clinical assistant. There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will depend on factors such as workload and staffing levels.

The clinical assistant is responsible for:

- Assisting with surgical procedures, providing support as required e.g. Vasectomy, Minor Surgery, Carpel Tunnel
- Providing a welcoming and calming environment for patients throughout their patient journey
- Utilising distraction techniques to support the patient experience
- Printing patient consent forms and associated documents in preparation for upcoming clinics
- Preparation of administration to be completed by GPs, recording all necessary information on the clinical system
- Preparation and cleaning of all clinical areas pre and post treatment, observing excellent aseptic techniques and maintaining IPC standards at all times
- Ensuring clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the Practice IPC policy
- Overseeing vasectomy stock and ordering; liaising with the HCA team and maintaining adequate stock levels following clinics, ensuring there at least 4 weeks worth of stock at any time
- Raising any concerns around obtaining stock to your Line Manager at the earliest opportunity
- Ensuring any discrepancies or concerns with stock, equipment or environment are reported in a timely manner to your Line Manager
- Manage stock cupboards, ensuring they are organised, do not hold excessive stock, and that stock is rotated and in date
- Responsible for managing the emergency bag and maintaining the expiry date dashboard
- The safe use and security of all Practice equipment used in the treatment rooms and reporting any defects to your Line Manger
- Carrying out electromyography (EMGs) as requested; running clinics, checking referrals and tasking results to the relevant GP
- Actioning and reviewing tasks
- Ensuring counselling questionnaires have been completed in clinical system prior to counselling appointment
- Undertaking vasectomy counselling when required, including providing information on procedure, contraception and aftercare, using the information slides
- Booking telephone appointment with surgeon before procedure day, where required
- Providing advice and instruction on pathology samples e.g. semen samples
- Specimen collection e.g. histology samples
- Putting labels on samples, form filling and ensuring timely preparation of specimens for collection to laboratory
