Mental Health Act Administrator required for a busy Mental Health Acute Hospital, based in Dartford, Kent

The role requires attention to detail and excellent time management skills. The post holder will be required to progress matters in an efficient way so that statutory time limits and Trust deadlines are met.

The post holder must be able to work well with third parties as well as be competent with regards to the Trust’s IT system

- To undertake the scrutiny of all Mental Health Section paperwork, of patient's detained under the Mental Health Act.
- To Act as a point of call to advise all professionals around the use of the Mental Health Act.
- To arrange reviews for patients in line with the Mental Health Act.
- To undertake training of the Mental Health Act to nursing staff, doctors and any other professionals within the NHS.
- To keep databases of section usage as and when required.

**JOB PURPOSE**:

- To support the Mental Health Act Administration Manager in providing a high quality administrative service to meet the statutory requirements of the Mental Health Act 1983 (as amended 2007) and to ensure the efficient and effective running of the Mental Health Act Administration Service for the Trust.

**KEY RESULT AREAS**:

- Receive and scrutinise statutory documentation and ensuring that errors are rectified within the legal timescale
- Provide information to patients and nearest relatives under Section 132 of the Mental Health Act 1983
- To maintain registers and an effective and up to date database of statutory deadlines
- To send letters to patients following detention/discharge and to Nearest Relatives where appropriate
