**Job summary**:
The Civil Society and Youth (CSY) directorate aims to build a fairer society, in which government, civil society, and businesses are able to work together to tackle social challenges and build stronger communities. We are the HMG leads for civil society responsible for a dynamic set of policy areas relating to young people, volunteers, charities and social enterprises. Our current priorities include:

- Supporting a strong, stable and sustainable Voluntary, Community, & Social Enterprise (VCSE) sector on behalf of government, including delivering the £100m support package announced at Spring Budget;
- Unlocking private finance and public service spend to maximise social value;
- Building connected and cohesive communities, taking a lead on:

- Creating opportunities for young people to realise their potential by providing upstream interventions out of school
- Supporting growth in the Social Enterprise sector to empower communities and address social challenges.

We have over 100 staff working across the United Kingdom.

**Job description**:
We are looking for a high-performing and self-motivated individual to join the Civil Society Strategy and Delivery team and lead the newly formed Strategy and Insight team. This is an exciting role that will work closely with our senior leadership team and provide thought leadership across a portfolio of insight and strategy projects focused on Ministerial priorities, risks or opportunities faced by the VCSE sector. Responsibilities for the role include:

- Building the newly formed Strategy and Insight team into a high performing, cohesive and inclusive team
- Developing our horizon scanning capability and delivering a cross-cutting Sector Insight Hub drawing from a wide range of internal and external sources
- Leading a cross-cutting strategy function across the Directorate which will deliver a portfolio of projects focused on Ministerial priorities, risks or opportunities faced by the VCSE sector.
- Overseeing cross-cutting stakeholder engagement to ensure that it supports strategic goals for Ministers and the Directorate, and is a valuable source of insight into the sector.
- Providing effective line management and development of a team of 3 Band B colleagues based across the UK.
- Actively contributing to the wider management and culture of the team and Directorate

**Person specification**:
Essential Criteria
- Ability to combine excellent analytical skills, good judgement and political understanding in order to provide robust policy advice.
- Ability to work with senior officials, Ministers and other senior Government stakeholders, providing constructive support in pressurised environments.
- Ability to credibly and independently engage senior internal and external stakeholders through strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to lead and collaborate effectively across teams and disciplines
- Ability to lead, manage and develop a team to become an effective and cohesive unit

- Understanding of the voluntary, community and social enterprise sector
- Experience working in cross-cutting strategy or policy teams
- Experience working with and interpreting diverse sources of information and intelligence to build a strategic view of priorities
