Job description

The Tech Sector Team is made up of three sub-teams: Tech Sector Growth & Big Tech, Digital Skills & Innovation and Strategy, Engagement & Policy.

Our role is to lead on engagement with the tech sector and develop or support policies that will allow the sector to thrive. Across Whitehall, we encourage consistent engagement with the tech community and ensure that policies support digital and tech growth. Externally we engage with key stakeholders to better understand the opportunities and barriers facing company growth and success. We also utilise milestone moments, such as London Tech Week, to amplify and promote the UK�s credentials to national and international audiences.

As a team, we -�

Lead HMG�s engagement with the world�s biggest tech companies. Build relationships with UK�s founders and investors to highlight the government�s pro-tech credentials and change perceptions about the prospects of scaling in the UK. Partner with industry to develop the digital skills needed for today�s jobs and the workforce of tomorrow. Enable innovation across the UK and enable all to participate in the digital economy and digital society. Collaborate with HMG and industry to empower an inclusive and diverse tech workforce.

Senior Policy Advisor � Digital Inclusion

Some of your responsibilities would include:

Helping to shape and drive forward Government�s ambition to grow a world-leading digital tech economy. You�ll do this by leading on key digital inclusion policy priorities, a high interest area for Ministers; Lead the development of robust policy solutions in response to key departmental commitments  on private sector website accessibility;Build cross-Whitehall understanding of the key challenges and opportunities for government�s digital inclusion priorities and how these support the growth of the digital economy; Drive accountability for digital inclusion priorities across Whitehall, at both official and Ministerial level;Build business cases for future funding, for example, as part of the Spending Review; Employ project management techniques to ensure effective delivery of programmes and projects across teams; Build relationships with a wide range of external stakeholders across industry and academia to support the development of policy; Deliver high-quality, timely advice to Ministers and Senior Managers;Line management of 1-2 HEOs.

Head of Science and Tech Scaleup Programmes

Some of your responsibilities would include:

Creating and delivering a number of programmes to support the growth of the UK�s Science and Tech sector;Engaging and building relationships with key science and tech stakeholders and Other Government Departments to deliver a set of programmes to support the growth of the UK�s tech sector;Employ project management techniques to ensure effective delivery of programmes and projects across stakeholders and teams;Overseeing a budget and a number of contracts to ensure the successful delivery of programmes;Ensuring robust evaluations of each of the programmes are in place;Build business cases for future funding, for example, as part of the Spending Review; Build relationships with a wide range of external stakeholders across industry and academia to support the development of policy;Deliver high-quality, timely advice to Ministers and Senior Managers; Line Management responsibilities TBC�

Alongside your salary of �52,320, Department for Science, Innovation & Technology contributes �14,126 towards you being a member of the Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension scheme.
