General Assistant Job Description

Responsible To: Hotel Manager, Deputy Manager & company directors

Hours of Work:
As required by the business but normally 5 days out of 7 and between 30 & 40 hours per week in a mixture of shifts.

As a General Assistant you will work with & be part of the team to ensure the daily operations of the hotel operate smoothly.

You will need to demonstrate that you can both work as an individual & as a team member in a very flexible manner to allow you to complete multiple job tasks across the various departments of the hotel.

At time you will work without direct supervision & will be expected to still perform the job roles to the fullest extent and at a high level.

A trained general assistant should possess excellent knowledge of all departments within the hotel, be able to work back of house as well as being comfortable in customer facing roles.

Once experience & good competency is gained in all areas then a general assistant can progress to a host / assistant manager position.

Job tasks Summary
- To gain & possess a full & thorough working knowledge of all departments within

the hotel including:

- Bar, restaurant, functions
- Kitchen
- Front office reception,
- Night portering
- Housekeeping
- Maintenance
- Welcoming guests on arrival in warm, friendly & efficient manner
- Proactively assist guests with nay requirements
- Respond to requests & anticipate any further queries guests may have
- Service of Food & Beverage throughout the hotel, including functions
- Assisting in the kitchen to prepare foods, including cooking breakfast, cleaning & washing up
- Assisting maintenance on request to maintain the building, grounds and gardens
- Assist managers in the preparation of events & functions
- Understand & implement company policies ensuring all procedures & records for health & safety, all company & legal policies are complied with through staff training, auditing, regular checks & record keeping.

The above task summary is not exhaustive & a general assistant should expect to have a varied & busy Rota across multiple departments & be prepared to assist in any role requested by the manager.
