**Job Purpose**

Situated at our secondary meat processing facility Haverhill, Suffolk, this role will report directly to the Head of Site Operations and will form part of the site senior management team. The incumbent will manage and drive vision, execution compliance anddevelopment of the Technical strategy ahead of market competition, empowering people to deliver the strategy, ensuring that technical policies and procedures comply with and focus on food safety, legality, quality and hygiene.

**Key Accountabilities**
- To engage as an active member of the senior leadership team to ensure the future success of the organisation providing leadership and direction to the business.
- Overall responsibility for the Businesses technical objectives with a focus to drive food safety; legality; raw material and product quality; customer, product and hygiene standards, Process improvements and customer technical & associated commercial relationships.
- Will have a detailed understanding of the context of and compliance with UK legislation and EU Directives in relation to areas governing Food Safety, Legality and the Environment; and to ensure that advice given to managers in these areas is clear, conciseand accurate, thereby minimising the company's exposure to risk and loss.
- To develop a proactive technical strategy with a focus on excellence in quality, that enthuses the customers and is practical for delivery.
- Will be seen by the Retailer as highly capable and credible in technical fields and whom they can rely upon to deliver for them, promote innovation and provide competitive edge.
- Ensuring the operation of the Technical, Quality Auditing and Hygiene Auditing functions attain minimum legislative and business & customer requirements.
- Responsibility in the effective management of site Business Continuity and Crisis Management, inclusive of Public recall situations.
- Senior Technical interface with all customers, Government organisations, NGO's and key liaison with business critical raw material suppliers.
- To establish and control departmental KPIs, including Consumer complaints, RTM's, microbiological and analytical trends, environmental and overheads, thereby ensuring the function conducts proactive reviews and delivers cost-effective solutions.
- Ensuring departmental functions are effective and efficient in their roles, ensuring business and customer requirements are to cease production that is not compliant with technical policies and procedures, with particular emphasis on food safety; legality;quality; hygiene and animal welfare standards.

**Skills and Experience Required**
- Experiacne working in a high-risk food manufacturing environment
- An experienced professional who understands the fundamentals of all associated technical disciplines.
- Technical and commercially astute, they are safety and legality-focused, with their expertise coming from technical, Quality, NPD and Hygiene backgrounds.
- A character with good Interpersonal skills, who will 'sell' technical visions passionately to customers, teams and employees, but who is prepared to concede their position if a better solution is found and will tenaciously support the new way.
- A logical and structured approach to guide and coordinate the Technical function.
- A genuine and strong communication of ideas to all levels of the business and management, plus a proactive collaboration with other disciplines within the business.
