The key function of the Sales Department is to generate the maximum amount of revenue from Channel 4’s programmes and products and on behalf of UKTV and Discovery advertising opportunities. Whilst at the same time, deliver great customer service and work with the wider business to deliver the Channel 4 remit.
- It employs approximately 225 people who work across a range of related functions, including Agency & Client Sales, Business Development, Digital, Partnership, Trading, Sales Development, and Campaign Operations.
- These teams are spread out across the country in offices in London, Leeds, and Manchester.**JOB PURPOSE**

The Traffic team assists in maximizing advertising revenue from commercial airtime, working within Ofcom regulations and The Broadcast Committee of Advertising Practice (BCAP) Code.
- The Traffic assistant works as part of a high functioning team in the creation of compliant Commercial and Sponsorship playlists intended for broadcast across the C4 portfolio, ensuring that all advertising breaks are fit for transmission across all designated channels.
- A key focus for this role is ensuring that transmission errors are avoided, that commercial and sponsorship copy are scheduled with due care and attention. Establishing that their content and timing are suitable, to avoid inappropriate juxtapositions in programmes.
- The Traffic Assistant will be responsible for ensuring that all advertising copy we receive and process from creative agencies are fit for transmission, have passed all regulatory compliance and are suitable for all designated channels. This includes ensuring that the correct advertising copy is scheduled and that all content and timing restrictions are appropriate as per Clearcast guidance.
- This role is a key point of contact for creative agencies, Campaign Operations and the wider Sales team.
- The Traffic Assistant will be responsible for ensuring that advertising copy queries are responded to promptly ahead of relevant deadlines.
- It is not necessary to have prior experience in TV advertising, but an interest in this area is key and a desire to work in a commercially focused department is important.
- The role requires a very high level of attention to detail and it is essential to be able to demonstrate the ability to read and digest information and produce clear, accurate communications, and where necessary make appropriate judgement calls.**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Support team in break checking and sequencing
- Support the setup management of advertising copy, products, commodities and advertisers
- Ensure advertising is compliant with broadcast regulation and appropriate for play out.
- Preparation of advertising playlists to be sent for transmission to broadcast centres to fixed deadlines.
- View programming to assess appropriate commercial content and distributing notes to the immediate and broader sales team
- Communicate effectively and maintain good relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Administrate post transmission logs for reconciliation purposes

**ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS**
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Proven ability to read Anod digest information accurately.
- Knowledge of the Channel 4 portfolio and content.
- Calm under pressure.
- Team player, but capable of working independently.
- Ability to effectively plan own workload.

- Ability to multitask, prioritise and work to strict deadlines.
- Experience of delivering excellent customer service.

**Autonomy/Judgement/Decision Making**
- Ability to identify and clearly communicate reasoning for unsuitably matched editorial and advertising content.
- Good PC skills (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Excellent communication skills.
- Previous experience of carrying out administration duties.

**Relationship Management**
- Builds and maintains good internal & external working relationships to support efficient working and maximise revenue
- Liaises with external operational staff, agencies, clients, and internal departments to ensure appropriate information is communicated and understood, to ensure commercial material is provided ‘right first time’

- The role requires an understanding, interpretation and adherence to appropriate regulatory guidelines and systems
