A minimum NVQ 3 in working with children and families or equivalent experience of working with children and families.

Experience of direct work with children, their families, and carers in a statutory or voluntary agency which provides services to vulnerable children and their families.

Experience in the use of IT including Microsoft packages

An understanding of child development and the effect of stress and trauma on child development.

An understanding of the key pieces of policies, guidance, and legislation which govern children’s social care.

Have unrestricted use of a car and a driving licence or willingness to use public transport.

Be flexible to work between the hours of 8.00am and 8.00pm including evenings and occasional weekends as needed on a rota basis.

The ability to effectively communicate with children, their families, and carers.

The ability to build relationships and deliver interventions to children, families, and carers.

The ability to work effectively in conflict situations.

Knowledge and understanding of child development.

Communicate effectively both verbal and in writing

Knowledge and understanding of relevant legislative provisions and statutory guidance including GDPR and child protection.

Willingness to complete mandatory training including, Fire Warden and Paediatric first aid.

Able to record information accurately and timely.

Support Parents to improve Parenting capacity and to increase parental confidence and wellbeing.

Contribute to assessments and contact review meetings.

Contribute to life story and child appreciation meetings.

**Job Purpose**

To provide an efficient and effective service to designated teams within Children and Family Service.

To adopt a flexible and adaptable approach across whole service as required. If required attend court to provide verbal evidence.

To provide an excellent customer service, displaying a ‘can do’ attitude.

To observe the interactions between families and children during the contact session and provide support, advice and guidance to families and carers within the contact in order to promote positive and appropriate actions and improve parenting skills and relationships.

**Key Accountabilities**

Making arrangements with relevant professionals and agencies to prepare for children and their families to have contact, including transporting when necessary of children and their families to and from the Contact Sessions.

As required, to be responsible for opening and securing of the building.

To observe and supervise the interactions between families and children attending contact.

Ensuring that the contact room and activities are age appropriate and any rooms are left tidy.

To provide support, advice, guidance and safeguard the welfare of children and young people and provide regular feedback to families and carers.

As necessary identify and schedule support for families within contact sessions.

To develop positive and professional relationships with children and their families/carers and professionals.

Contribute to assessments by providing written and verbal reports in relation to the observations observed, ensuring that all relevant information has been passed on to the child’s social worker and other relevant professionals.

If required to attend court to provide verbal evidence.

To access, input and retrieve information using Corporate and Departmental systems.

Ensuring that all reports and recordings are stored accurately upon the electronic database, and liaised with relevant professionals.

To attend meetings in relation to the service, children and families as appropriate.

Undertake duties as required which support the vision of the organisation, including developing and awareness of the services within the contact service.

As required, to be responsible for cash handling and recording system associated with this task.
