About the Role:
At the Genomic Surveillance Unit, we develop, run, support and maintain open products that enable the genomic surveillance needs of our partners to be met. Our products provide support from sample collection in the field, through high-throughput laboratory sequencing, to the delivery and interrogation of analysis-ready data. We work closely with our partners to identify and develop new concepts, prototypes and opportunities tailored to their specific needs in establishing sustainable surveillance programmes.

The Surveillance Operations team is responsible for the delivery of an end-to-end service, producing high-quality data products and surveillance reports, at scale, promptly and at a low cost. Recently, the team has expanded the genomic surveillance service to support the national response to the covid-19 pandemic.

You will be responsible for:
You will lead the planning and coordination of operational activities within COVID operations to ensure the smooth running of the end-to-end process for COVID Activities. The Operations Lead will need to develop a broad understanding of the strategy and operations to support the Head of Service Delivery in the management of functions within the COVID pipeline.

About You:
You will be self-driven and proactive with the ability to provide comprehensive operational support. Experience in working with scientific operations will be essential. You must be able to manage and prioritise tasks to effectively coordinate queries, issues and communications with key stakeholders. Essential Skills:
- Experience in working with multiple stakeholders, prioritising and managing their expectations- Ability to quickly understand scientific, technical and process challenges and break down complex problems into actionable steps- Proficiency and experience in data analysis of large sets of data- Ability to work in a frequently changing environment with the capability to interpret management information to amend plans- Ability to build collaborative working relationships with stakeholders at all levels- Ability to work independently whilst prioritising, managing your own workload, and delivering agreed activities consistently on time- Strategic thinking, ability to see the ‘bigger picture’- Degree educated, or relevant professional qualifications- Sound analytical skills including the ability to utilise common toolsets such as spreadsheet, flowcharting and presentation packages- Driven and enthusiastic with a ‘can do’ attitude and a strong sense of ownership to get the job done, always striving to ‘get it right first time’- Clear communicator with excellent written and verbal skills with the ability to interact with people at all levels of the organisation and external suppliers- Produce concise, unambiguous and structured documentation for audiences of varying technical ability- A highly collaborative and consultative approach

Ideal Skills:
- Demonstrable experience in managing successful projects across a range of areas to meet or exceed expectations

**Salary**: £50,000 - £60,000
