Hinxton, United Kingdom Wellcome Sanger Institute Full time

Do you want to help us improve human health and understand life on Earth? Make your mark by shaping the future to enable or deliver life-changing science to solve some of humanity’s greatest challenges.

About the Role:
We are looking for a Computational Postdoctoral Fellow to help deliver Project Symphony, an OpenTargets-funded Project aiming to perform extensive combinatorial CRISPR screening of cancer cell lines at the Wellcome Sanger Institute. This position will be for a 3-year fixed term contract. You will join the

Experimental Cancer Genetics Team

lead by

David Adams

About Us:
_KRAS_-mutant colorectal cancer (CRC) and triple negative breast cancer (TNBC).

In this project, we will focus on lung cancer, which is the malignancy associated with the largest number of deaths world-wide and is increasing in frequency in some groups such as women. The genetics of lung cancer is well studied, with activating mutations in oncogenes such as
_KRAS_ and
_EGFR_,
_ _and loss-of function events in genes such as
_p53,_
- NF1_ and
_STK11_,
_ _characterizing the somatic genetic landscape. In this project, we aim to leverage the unique CRISPR screening platform of the Wellcome Sanger Institute, the expertise in CRISPR screen and single cell analyses of EMBL, and the drug development and cancer model expertise of our Pharma partners to identify and characterize new therapeutic target combinations for lung cancer. Effective targeting of synthetic lethal interactions, including those that are cancer cell specific owing to the presence of somatic alterations in the tumour, may be exquisitely precise - as evidenced by the use of PARP inhibitors in
_BRCA1/2_ mutant breast cancer, where treatment elicits cancer cell death while leaving normal tissues untouched.

In this project, we will use a combination of both established CRISPR/Cas9 technology and new CRISPR technologies with the aim of identifying genetic interactions and gaining mechanistic insights into the cellular effects of gene co-disruption.

You will be responsible for:
- Proactively driving data analysis working with other members of the team. This will involve deploying existing methods and also developing new approaches to data analysis.- Working closely with other computational biologists to analyse and interpret data and to present these data to the team, pharma partners and scientific community.- Remaining at the forefront of new technologies and methods for CRISPR screening.

As a PDF, you will take ownership of projects and aim to publish and present your work at leading research meetings.

About you:
If you have experience working with large-scale genomic data, CRISPR screening or genomic analysis, and you are seeking a multi-faceted and challenging role, this job might be for you

You are a detail-oriented problem solver motivated by our mission of delivering high-quality data and analysis results to partners. If you are motivated by continuous improvement, and are excited to lead by example by sharing ownership of team processes and ways of working with the team lead and other senior team members, then please get in touch

Joining us as Postdoctoral Fellow:
You will be part of a vibrant international
