This senior role is an exciting opportunity to join the Trust communications senior leadership team. The post holder will work side by side with our Head of Digital Communications and Health Content, and together they will lead the strategic development of our digital communications roadmap.

The post holder will be the Trust's expert leader on digital communications technology and the product owner for our channels, including a new intranet and Trust websites. They will provide expert advice on user experience, analytics, search, apps and other emerging digital channels. They will lead on the delivery of a wide range of critical long-term digital communications projects, including acting as Programme Director for the delivery of a new staff intranet for the expanded Trust.

The post holder will work together with the Head of Digital Communications and Health Content to lead the strategic development of our digital communications roadmap. They will also work closely with heads of communications in our clinical groups to ensure our digital channels are effectively managed and planned Trust-wide.

They will be both the Senior Programme Manager and ‘Product Owner’ for the delivery of a new staff intranet for the expanded Trust. Delivery of this complex project will require advanced programme management skills and technical expertise, spanning strategic planning, development of effective governance, ability to engage multiple stakeholders and delivery of excellent user experience in support of operational priorities and staff engagement. The post holder will lead the programme, reporting to the Director of Communications as the Senior Responsible Officer.

The post holder will develop a detailed understanding of the Trust's business activities, and have an in depth knowledge of current and future digital technology, providing expert advice to the clinical groups and corporate teams. They will have an expert understanding of accessibility requirements to ensure the Trust meets its statutory obligations and provides equal access to high quality information for patients, the public and referrers. They will be responsible for the performance of our sites and relationships with our suppliers.

The communications department

The team is led by the Trust Director of Communications who is responsible for leading and developing the Trust’s full range of communications channels for its diverse audiences, working closely with the Trust’s clinical groups and corporate services and the executive leadership team.

In the Evelina London and Royal Brompton and Harefield clinical groups, there is a senior head of communications at clinical group level, who forms part of the leadership team of both the clinical group and the communications team, working closely with the head of media and corporate communications and the head of digital communications and health content who lead the communications functions at a Trust level.

The senior communications team is collectively responsible for enhancing and protecting the reputation of the Trust and for all aspects of internal and external communications, ensuring effective engagement with key audiences.

Digital communications

Working closely with the Head of Digital Communications and Health Content, develop a comprehensive digital communications strategy and roadmap for the Trust to ensure that best practice, user experience, innovation and new technology in digital communications support the delivery of the Trust’s strategic ambitions and business objectives.

Lead on the delivery of a wide range of critical long-term digital communications projects including as ‘product owner’ for the public-facing websites of the Trust and for the new intranet (see below).

Co-chair the Trust’s Digital Communications Board, which consists of senior DT&I and communications staff, including the Director of Communications.

Act as the Trust’s expert on the operational and strategic delivery of digital communications, with a particular focus on technology and channel development, providing advice and guidance to corporate teams, clinical services and clinical groups on the development of websites and digital channels.

Oversee the Trust’s web development policy, supporting adherence to the Trust’s digital communications strategy and ensuring the Trust’s digital communications channels comply with Trust branding guidelines, accessibility standards, and legal requirements such as GDPR.
