This is an exciting opportunity to work on one of the most high-profile, interesting and demanding briefs in Government.

**Job description**:
We are looking for a highly motivated, strategic thinker with a proven track record of planning and overseeing delivery of creative and proactive communications campaigns across a range of social media channels.

You will deputise for the Head of Digital where required, whether in the day-today management of the team or providing expert advice in senior level meetings.

You will have a keen interest in news and politics, with a good understanding of the traditional and digital media landscape the team and department operate in. You will also have a good understanding of digital analytics and its importance in demonstrating impact of the team’s work. You will lead continuous improvement of the team’s channel and content strategy and a baseline understanding across the directorate of our performance at engaging or reaching audiences through digital channels.

The post calls for flexibility, excellent time management and prioritisation skills, and importantly the ability to work as part of a team. It needs someone who can see the bigger picture and turn it into day to day reality. It is critical that you continuously evolve strong collaborative working relationships, to help the digital team to continue to deliver a first-class service to the directorate and department.

Due to the nature of the role, this role would only be available for full-time applicants. There will also be a need to work out of hours, in agreement with your team on a rota basis.

**Person specification**:
Main responsibilities will include:

- Working across the team to plan resource including out of hours.
- Working with the central planning team to devise digital-specific planning and prioritisation tools, and optimising them as necessary.
- Building close working relationships with communications colleagues to provide expert advice support embedding forward planning within teams and effective ways of working with the digital team.
- Using analytics tools to embed a culture of data & analytics within the digital team and across the directorate, with continuous improvement of delivery.
- Working alongside the communications Head of Strategy to embed new prioritisation frameworks that put strategic thinking at the heart of planning activity.
- Leading the upskilling of the department in digital storytelling and trends.
- Deputising for the Head of Digital where required.
- Ability to build positive relationships and oversee a project from planning and conception to delivery, working through others.
- Ability to develop and gain buy-in across the department.
- Strong understanding of government communications and how digital communications can support the departmental objectives.
- Strong understanding of how to use analytics and insight to inform and evaluate digital communications.
- Ability to set clear direction, encourage creativity and innovation, ensure highest standards are met at all times and build best practice.
- Ideas make use of the latest tools, trends and techniques to produce effective communications.

**Essential Criteria**
- Experience in digital communications - ideally in strategy and planning or content creation.
- Experience working in a matrix way to deliver through others.
- Experience in developing strategy and in planning communications.
- Solid judgement and ability to adapt to fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of and experience in analytics tools and metrics.

**Desirable Criteria**

Ideally you will have some experience in:

- Experience working with digital content and strategy agencies.
- Hands-on experience with social copy-writing and best practise / graphic design / videography.
- Ability to present information concisely and accurately, with keen attention to detail.
