**Job summary**:

- The Civil Service commission is looking for an individual to support the Policy and Operations team as the Policy and Operations Officer. This is an exciting opportunity to see how the government and the Civil Service operates. This will involve working with senior officials and using expert knowledge, analysis and judgement to make impactful decisions that uphold the requirements of the Recruitment Principles and the values set out in the Civil Service Code, including honesty, integrity and impartiality.**Job description**:
This is an important and exciting role in a small and high profile team. You will play a key part in the promotion of the Recruitment Principles and the Commission's regulatory activity reporting to the Policy and Operations Manager.

Key responsibilities include:

- Delivering a frontline service which advises recruiting organisations across the Civil Service, ensuring the provision of expert, timely advice to recruiting departments.
- Managing a caseload of exceptional appointment requests.
- Managing a caseload of Recruitment Principles and Civil Service Code complaints.
- Supporting the collection, validation and retention of recruitment data from regulated organisations across government.
- Deploying excellent communication skills to a range of senior stakeholders, including Commissioners, government departments and members of the public; this might be on the phone, face to face or in writing.
- Supporting the Regulatory Compliance Manager and Head of Policy and Operations in driving forward a new compliance programme across government.
- Supporting the Policy and Operations team, and the wider Civil Service Commission, where required.

**Essential criteria**:

- Critical thinking skills, enabling you to make judgements based on evidence and using codes and guidance.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to interact confidently and professionally with stakeholders, often at senior levels.
- Capable of drafting advice for publication, correspondence and briefings; adapting style as required.
- Ability to prioritise, with exceptional record-keeping and organisational skills.
- Attention to detail and the ability to maintain, interrogate and report on quantitative and qualitative data.
- Ability to contribute to a positive team culture, being an ambassador for ACOBA, OCPA and the Civil Service Commission Secretariat.
