- UKCEH is looking for an experienced Stakeholder Engagement Lead (Data and Digital) to join our 600-strong team, contributing to scientific discovery and generating the data, insights and solutions that researchers, businesses and governments need to solve complex environmental challenges.

Join the Environmental Data Science group at UKCEH Lancaster and embark on groundbreaking research aimed at engaging communities with the data and digital technologies fundamental to environmental science. Drawing upon research literature and stakeholder engagement knowledge, you will explore innovative approaches to managing and utilising data and digital research infrastructure. Your role will involve designing and implementing various communication activities, including videos, metaphorical stories, immersive events, collaborative games, and Virtual Reality experiences, to convey research insights about the infrastructure.
- In addition to working creativity on innovative projects, you will manage the day-to-day forms of research communication such as news articles, impact case studies, guidance documentation, and social media snippets. This varied approach ensures impactful circulation and knowledge sharing surrounding environmental research data and its digital infrastructures.
- Collaborating with diverse stakeholders, including scientists, policymakers, and the public, you will co-design activities to communicate data and insights on digital research infrastructures. By fostering communication and collaboration both within and outside UKCEH, you will initiate interest in the environmental data and digital technologies hosted and developed by UKCEH. This includes managing nationally important datasets on terrestrial and freshwater sciences within the Environmental Information Data Centre (EIDC) as part of the NERC Environmental Data Service. - Your main responsibilities will include:
- Research and develop new, creative and digitally inspired ways of engaging a variety of different stakeholders in best practices surrounding the management and use of data and digital research infrastructure-
- Lead, co-design and output a range of activities that raise the profile of environmental data and the digital technologies underpinning the science-
- Work closely with the Environmental Data Science team, and specifically the subgroups focused on the co-design of digital research infrastructure and data stewardship and national data centre services, to understand the needs of stakeholders for engagement in environmental data and digital technologies-
- Proactively explore relationships with a variety of stakeholders from non-experts to experts in environmental science, working with them on communication and engagement activities-
- Align activities with the work of the research and development impact team, the UKCEH communications team and the NERC Environmental Data Service (including the latter’s Impact Stories Working Group), supporting consistent approaches and terminology across UKCEH and NERC for communications around data and digital technologies-
- Support opportunities to enhance engagement in environmental data and digital technologies with the research community, including publishing your research and contributing to relevant research proposalsFor the role of Stakeholder Engagement Lead (Data and Digital), we’re looking for somebody who:
- Has evidence of continuing professional development and up to date knowledge of research in their field, including creative ways of engaging communities in research data (and desirably, in digital technologies too)-
- Has experience of working with stakeholders for communication and engagement activities in a variety of forms (e.g., films, storytelling, games, events, visualisations, articles)-
- Works well within a team and with mínimal supervision, keeping managers appraised as appropriate-
