**Job description**:
This post forms part of the Portfolio Team within Detention Services (DS) which is part of Home Office Immigration Enforcement (HOIE), offering some of the most varied and interesting opportunities in Government. DS is responsible for the provision and oversight of Immigration Removal Centres (IRCs); residential short-term holding facilities, holding rooms and escorting. The primary responsibility of the Directorate is to ensure that people in detention are held securely, safely and are treated with dignity and respect. This plays a vital role in allowing the Government to maintain effective immigration control and secure the UK’s borders.

Almost all of us in the Home Office use personal data and DS is no exception. It is an essential part of delivering the department's responsibilities to keep citizens safe and the country secure. Protecting personal data and ensuring it is used lawfully is a key part of reassuring and maintaining public confidence in our services.

As the Data Lead for DS, the post holder will be responsible for leading key initiatives and working to address gaps in data protection. The role would suit someone flexible who is comfortable handling a number of data protection initiatives and can work independently whilst managing competing priorities and maintaining quality standards. The post holder will need the ability to engage and win the cooperation and support of multiple parties across various workstreams with different and often competing priorities, with an understanding of the role that technology can play in data protection.

This post can be based in IE Offices in Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester or Solihull. Travel to other IE locations in UK, and occasional overnight stays, may be required.

**Person specification**:
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

- Reporting to the DS Information Asset Owner and DS Senior Management Team on the Directorate’s exposure to risk and resilience to data issues
- Acting as DS liaison with Home Office IE Knowledge and Information Management Unit (KIMU)
- Creating and implementing a long-term plan to develop the information asset register and ensure there is a governance and audit framework in place
- Enabling the directorate to use the information asset register to better exploit DS data, improve decision making and ensure transparency and engaging with Information Asset Managers (IAM) to identify areas for improvement
- Advising on the link between data protection, policy and cyber security, and working with teams across the Department to identify and resolve data protection issues
- Being the first point of contact for data sharing advice and guidance, compliance and be the DS data SPOC and escalation point
- Partnering with teams across DS to ensure data privacy issues are considered at the outset of new projects, products and initiatives and Data Privacy is embedded ‘by default and design’
- Engaging with the Data Protection Practitioner network to support campaigns and initiatives and to effect improvements at a local level
- Leading on the implementation of the new SharePoint file management system as it is rolled out for DS
- Managing data sharing agreements (MOUs) with OGDs, third parties and NGOs
- Representing DS at HOIE wide DPP meetings
- Leading on DS data protection impact assessments (DPIAs);
- Managing DS Data Maturity Assessments, reporting and escalation; and
- Responsibility for all ad-hoc data reporting queries/requirements in DS.
