Senior Health Care Support Worker

We are currently recruiting for our Bronchoscopy Unit. The Unit is a versatile ever-changing part of the Diagnostic Pathway Service. The Bronchoscopy Unit use does vary depending on the Doctors List. Whatever format Bronchoscopy Unit takes the staff always strive to provide high quality patient care.
We assess patients, admit them, and take care of the patient during procedure. It is the responsibility of staff to label samples correctly and transport the sample to the laboratory. We provide a high standard of overall nursing care and sometimes patients are recovered in the unit.
Bronchoscopy Unit is run by a small, well established and very supportive team and is a fast-paced area with a lot of learning and development opportunities including experience of working within the Endoscopy department and Lung cancer Team.
Your role will include working in the department and assisting with Lung Cancer Services should the need arise. This will give you opportunity to develop skills in dealing with highly sensitive issues.
You will be supported by both teams; you will have the opportunity to develop professionally and be involved in new initiatives and service improvements.
We are looking for a passionate, enthusiastic and dedicated individual with excellent communication skills. You will need to be motivated and have the flexibility and adaptability to meet the needs of a fast paced versatile environment.
You will be responsible for providing a range of personal care for patients and a range of clinical duties under the guidance of a registered healthcare professional.
Senior Healthcare Support Workers work independently performing a number of clinical duties/tasks following training and meeting competency within role as per policy and procedure.

Assist patients with personal hygiene, toileting and use of continence aids
Support Moving and Handling, use of mobility aids, correct patient positioning, assess pressure areas and skin integrity

Be aware of the patient’s needs - emotional, social, physical, and cultural. Respect privacy, dignity and beliefs. Acts in a way that supports equality and diversity values.

Maintain confidentiality at all times
Report any information regarding the wellbeing of the patients to the Registered Health Care Professional in a timely manner.
Support individuals who are distressed
Manage and organise time and activities to support and meet the needs of individuals
To empower patients and their families to make their own decisions about health and choices.
Assist with dietary needs of the patient as required
To undertake safe venepuncture and Cannulation as requested by the Registered Health Care Professional and have competencies checked annually by a Registered Healthcare Professional
At the request of the Registered Health Care Professional, perform and record physiological measurements within the remit of the SHCA role and report accurately to the Registered Health Care Professional, the assessment undertaken, on patients.
Obtaining samples at the request of a Registered Health Care Professional, including wound swabs, eye swabs, urine specimens, MRSA swabs, stool samples and sputum specimens.
To assist in blood collection.
Assist the Registered Health Care Professional in maintaining a clean environment
