**_ We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced individual to take up a new role of Data Protection Advisor._**

**_ Policing holds vast amounts of data for law enforcement and operational purposes, but how that data is used requires rigorous governance to ensure its retention and use is lawful, fair and proportionate and does not infringe on the rights and freedoms of individuals. In order to meet the organisation’s strategic ambitions for the use of data, we have created a new Information Assurance function with responsibility for information governance, records management and data protection._**

**_ This role will provide professional guidance and specialist advice with regard to data protection compliance, ensuring that appropriate controls are idefnitied and implemented to protect personal data and ensure the force is compliant with GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018._**

The main purpose of the role is to be responsible for the implementation and management of all Data Protection matters.

To provide professional guidance and specialist advice with regard to data protection compliance, ensuring that appropriate controls are identified and implemented to protect personal data and ensure the force is compliant with GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018.

**Main Responsibilities**:
To act as the designated specialist for data protection, providing expert advice to the force on all aspects of data protection compliance

To support the DPO in the delivery of their statutory obligations, by assessing the forces compliance and the creation and implementation of action plans to maintain and improve data protection compliance.

To develop, produce and implement data protection related policies, procedures and guidance.

To work collaboratively with the change team, Digital Services and departments to ensure that privacy by design is applied and data protection impact assessments undertaken for new and changed uses of personal data

To investigate actual and suspected data breaches, working with the DPO to ensure that incidents are reported to the ICO within mandatory timeframes, and ensuring that action is taken to prevent reoccurrence.

To prepare and deliver data protection training, education, and awareness, including organisational learning from incidents.

To undertake data flow mapping exercises and maintain a Record of Processing Activity for the force to ensure that all processing is lawful and secure.

To maintain the force register of information sharing agreements, ensuring that Information Sharing Agreements (ISA), Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) agreements and service level agreements are in place and are regularly reviewed in accordance with legislation/national guidance.

To ensure that third parties processing information on behalf of the force are aware of their responsibilities through appropriate clauses and GDPR schedules in contracts.

To work with other stakeholders and teams, including the DPO, Information Security and Records Management to ensure that the force is compliant with UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018 principles, included Law Enforcement Processing under Part 3 of the Data Protection Act 2018.

To maintain up-to-date knowledge of all relevant Data Protection legislation, national guidance and standards advising on implications to the Force and ensuring best practice

Represent professionally and promote the reputation of Warwickshire Police at meetings and groups both internally and externally, including the development of partnerships with relevant organisations.

To undertake other duties commensurate with the nature, level of responsibility and grading of this post, as required.

**Knowledge**:
Level 5, or equivalent, qualification.

To hold a recognised GDPR or data protection qualification

Demonstrable knowledge of UK GDPR, Data Protection Act 2018 and other relevant legislation

Understanding and good working knowledge of information law and best practice standards relating to information management including APP Information Management, Data Protection, Information Sharing, Management of Police Information (MoPI) and Information Assurance (IA)

Understanding and good working knowledge of the key principles and requirements of the Data Protection and Freedom of Information Acts
