- We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced individual to take up a new role of Head of Information Assurance._
- Policing holds vast amounts of data for law enforcement and operational purposes, but how that data is used requires rigorous governance to ensure its retention and use is lawful, fair and proportionate and does not infringe on the rights and freedoms of individuals. _In order to meet the organisation’s strategic ambitions for the use of data, a new and exciting senior leadership opportunity has arisen to lead our Information Assurance function with responsibility for information governance, records management and data protection. The role will provide strategic direction, anticipate challenges, drive performance, and build the capability required in this area._
- This role will also fulfil the statutory role of the Data Protection Officer (DPO) supported by a deputy DPO and sit within the newly created Data, Strategy and Technology directorate. _This role provides an excellent opportunity to lead and shape a key developing area of importance for the force._

**The main purpose of the role is** to be responsible for leading the Information Assurance department. The role will provide strategic direction, anticipate challenges, drive performance, and build the capability required in this area.

This function includes Information assurance, data protection, records management, and data quality.

The role will fulfil the statutory role of the Data Protection Officer (DPO) supported by Senior Information Assurance Manager (Deputy DPO).

***Main Responsibilities**:
Develop, negotiate, and deliver an agreed strategy and implementation plan for Information Assurance which supports the strategic objectives of the organisation, ensuring it is compatible with national and regional initiatives and directives, and legislation including GDPR and the new Data Protection Act 2018.

Oversee and lead the work of the Information Assurance function. This includes project and task definition and prioritisation, governance, quality management and budgetary control, and management tasks such as recruitment and training.

To act as Data Protection Officer for the force, providing professional and technical advice and guidance to the organisation on compliance with the Data Protection Act 2018 and GDPR.

Understand, track and where required mitigate the level of Information Assurance risk the organisation is carrying, balancing this with the strategic and operational requirements of the force.

Informing and advising the data controller and SIRO of the force’s obligations under DPA and represent the Chief Constable on Data Protection matters.

Lead briefings, advice, training and guidance to Chief Officers and other senior leads on key matters relating to information assurance.

Develop information assurance policy, including data protection and records management, ensuring governance, standards and guidelines are appropriate to organisational, technological, and legal requirements and in accordance with best professional and industry practice.

Act as force lead for interactions with the Information Commissioners Office (ICO) on data protection issues managing all requests and co-operating with the ICO as mandated by GDPR.

The post holder provides independent oversight and is the point of escalation for Data Protection appeals and reviews.

In order to maintain and monitor compliance with policies the post holder will assign responsibilities under those policies, raise awareness, train or arrange training of staff involved in processing operations, and manage audits required under these policies.

Strategically lead and co-ordinate the Force’s information sharing agreement (ISA) process, ensuring they have a lawful basis, are reviewed in a timely manner and comply with relevant legislation and the minimum defined security standards.

Lead and manage the force’s approach to Records Management and Data Quality and ensuring compliance with legislation, policies and procedures, such as Management of Police Information (MOPI).

Develop and maintain strategies to improve data quality and compliance with legislation.

To lead on the management and future plans in relation to the physical storage of records.
