The therapy assistant role will be largely administrative with a focus on providing comprehensive clerical support to the Children’s therapies leadership team in order to support clinical teams in being best able to deliver high quality patient care.

This will include involvement in both the day-to-day administrative support and wider data collection specific to the patients / services that will in turn assist in the development of the service to meet the current and future needs of our patient population. This role will therefore positively contribute towards improving the overall patient experience.

The role will include liaison with other health professionals. There will also be liaison with Parents/Carers, Children and Young people both via telephone and face to face to support the Clinicians in their day to day roles and to support with data collection.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities
Principle duties
- To support the head of Children’s Therapies and Gait with administrate duties as required.
- To carry out data collection as required, including the capturing of / data entry / and summarising of this data (as appropriate), with support from wider clinical and administrative staff.
- To deal pro-actively and efficiently with telephone enquiries from patients, carers and other service users professionally, ensuring, where possible, that the caller’s needs are met, or they are transferred to the most appropriate person.
- General administrative tasks that support with the smooth running of the department (e.g., creation of staff annual leave sheets, supporting with health-roster and inputting staff additional working hours to support staff pay).
- Working flexibly within the team to provide support to professional colleagues and the multi-disciplinary team.
- Clinical support (initially within speech and language therapy) that reflects the service needs at that time.
- Contribute to own personal development through completion of mandatory training, supervision, and appraisals.
- To carry out any additional administrative duties required to support the smooth running of the department.

General duties
- Demonstrate high levels of customer care and be an ambassador for customer care within the trust.
- Provide robust administrative functions that underpin the delivery of high-quality service and maintain effective working relationships with clinical and administrative staff.
- Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
- Be flexible in approach to work, such as covering for others (where appropriate) to support the continuity of service delivery.
- Attend mandatory and departmental meetings and trainings as required to ensure that up-to-date working knowledge of the service and trust procedures is maintained.
- Act in a manner aligned with the Trust values and consistently demonstrate the behaviours that will ensure the achievement of delivering compassionate care and excellence.
- To help maintain safe and clean working environments.
- To maintain good working relationships with the multi-disciplinary teams and ensure effective communication between all involved.
- To participate in the department induction and training of new or temporary staff, and the continued training of existing staff.
- To contribute to the wider team discussions such as service development.

Clinical duties
- To work in a collaborative, and a co-operative manner with other health professionals and relevant agencies.
- To work autonomously but acknowledge own limitations/ know when to seek clinical advice.
- To communicate with parents/ carers ensuring communication is sensitive and tailored to the needs of the individual patient/family.
- To engage with patients and families and assist with patient feedback/ outcome questionnaires/assessments.
