Taunton, United Kingdom Somerset County Council Full time

**Why should I choose Somerset County Council?**
Good question.

Well, for a start, we’re a hugely ambitious council, committed to improving lives for the residents, communities and businesses of Somerset.

And that’s why we’re working so hard to build a sustainable organisation with a culture that rewards, values and recognises our staff, and gives everyone here the opportunity to grow and develop, personally and professionally.

If you’re looking for a place where you work truly matters - where YOU truly matter - we might be just right for you.

We also promote a healthy work-life balance and offer flexible working arrangements wherever possible, including working from home.

**What will I be doing?**
We’re working to improve the lives of children in Somerset - and you’ll be a key part of that. Your day-to-day work will involve:

- Supporting the Quality Assurance of placements in and relationships with our specialist settings across Somerset including leading on the role of quality lead with independent specialist settings and across different provisions which provide places for children and young people with Education, health and care plans.
- Lead the oversight and quality assurance processes relating to independent Specialist Schools and Colleges which will include having a robust approach to supporting improvements across settings both inside and outside of Somerset. You will also support the Strategic Manager in ensuring quality and value for money in all settings (inc. alternative provisions and referral units) who support young people with EHC Plans.
- You will use your knowledge of SEND to support the experience for children and young people who attend these setting.
- You will be liaising with educational settings, Children and young people, parents, and a range of professional stakeholders on a daily basis.

**What kind of experience or qualifications do I need?**
We offer ongoing support, training and guidance to help you be the best you can be. But it will really help if you:

- have excellent communication skills
- can demonstrate commitment to making a real difference to the lived experience for children, young people, and their families.
- demonstrate outstanding customer service skills as the role will liaise with CYP, parents and a range of professional stakeholders.
- a strong knowledge and experience of education and within that of SEND and partnership working with educational establishments, health and social care are essential attributes
- excellent organisational skills
- positive mindset to embrace this challenging role.
- experience of working in an educational setting.

Holding recognised and relevant professional qualifications e.g teaching qualifications, social work, management qualifications, are essential to the role.

We’re proud to be here for the people of Somerset. And that means everyone in Somerset. An important part of this is ensuring that we are as diverse and inclusive as the people and communities we serve.

**What will I be offered in return?**
The salary for the role is Grade 9, ranging from £37,261 - £41,496 per annum

From 1 April 2023 the County and District councils in Somerset will be replaced by a new single unitary authority - Somerset Council. It’s a genuinely exciting time to join us as we work together with the four district councils to deliver the new council for Somerset.

**Anything else I should know?**
We are proud to offer an environment that is supportive and rewarding, working as part of a team who are passionate about the work they do to improve the lives of people in Somerset.
